#GuesstheBreed This breed's most famous fan is none other than Queen Elizabeth II. She got her first dog of this breed in 1933, and has not been without one or more since.
#newtothecollection In continuing the tradition of memorializing famous dogs, The AKC Museum of the dog is pleased to announce that we have been given a group of memorabilia relating to the famous Doberman Pinscher Champion Rancho Dobe’s Storm. This champion Dobie won Best in Show at Westminster twice in a row in 1952 and 1953, making him 1 of 7 dogs to accomplish this feat. Thank you very much to Jane and Jeffrey Carey for donating these objects!
#FromtheArchives One of the newest AKC recognized breeds is the Dogo Argentino! The breed was envisioned by Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez in the late 1920s. The base for the Dogo Argentina was the Fighting Dog of Martinez's native Cordoba, a cross breed of English Bulldog, Bull Terrier, and Mastiff. A booklet in the AKC archives written by Dr. Martinez includes many family trees illustrating his process of producing the breed we now know, which came to the United States in the 1970s.
