Last night our members got a chance to practice with our new Med Sled on our ATV. With hunting season upon us it’s good to be prepared in case of off road emergencies. We are one of the few companies in the area with a med sled.

Dear fellow community members, Our informational statement released last week has generated many comments, questions, and concerns. As it is our goal to inform, not to alarm, we would like to address some of those here. Does the Akron Fire Company still respond to calls in the Village of Akron? Yes. The Akron Fire Company will continue to provide Fire/Rescue/EMS response in the Village of Akron. The contract with the Village of Akron has not changed....Continue reading

This year, one of our firefighters, Hillery Dennies will be climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center to honor the FDNY firefighters and first responders who selflessly lost their lives so that others might live. Hillery will be doing a stair climb in full turnout gear at Jada Blitz Fitness in Williamsville, NY on 9/11. In turn, she will be raising money for the Feal Good Foundation Inc. Your contribution will make an incredible impact, whether you ...donate $5 or $500. Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support. We’ve included information about the Feal Good Foundation below. Feal Good Foundation provides education and awareness to the public regarding the catostrophic health issues affecting the 9/11 Responders. Feal Good Foundation provides direct financial assistance to the Responders and their families and provides grant funding to other 501c3 organizations that support 9/11 Responders.

Dear fellow community members, The members of the Akron Fire Company wish to inform you of coming changes to our company fleet and operations. We would like to outline some of those changes here. As of January 1st, 2020 the Town of Newstead chose to end its contractual relationship with the Akron Fire Company. Having proudly served residents in the Town of Newstead since 1923, we regret that residents of the Town will no longer receive a direct response for service from u...s. While we strongly disagree with the Town’s actions in this matter, we recognize that the Board has the right to take these actions. We sincerely hope that this will not negatively impact the health and safety of residents in the Town. As we entered negotiations to renew the Village fire protection contract, we notified the Village of Akron Board of Trustees of our change of service status with the Town, which amounts to an approximately 40% cut to our current budget. Over the last several months it became apparent that the Village is unable to adjust its budget to mitigate the financial loss incurred as a result of the Town’s actions. Despite the disastrous budget deficit we are facing, the Village Board of Trustees awarded a 2% increase over our last year’s contract money. These two incidents have required the Akron Fire Co to reevaluate its financial status and adjust our operations to meet this new financial challenge. The following actions are being taken immediately: -Our ambulance has been removed from service and will be placed for sale. -Our ladder truck has been removed from service and will be placed for sale. -Our tanker/engine has been removed from service and will be placed for sale. The following actions are being considered for the near future: -Removal from service and sale of our mini-pumper. -Removal from service and sale of our Assistant Chief/command vehicle. -Removal from service and sale of our Chief/command vehicle. -Removal from service and sale of an additional engine. -The closing and sale of our sub-station on Franklin St. We understand how drastic these actions appear, but we are limited by the amount of financial support our local government is willing to invest in public safety. While disappointing, this downsizing effort is essential to maintain the solvency of the Akron Fire Company. The brave men and women of the Akron Fire Company remain committed to the health and safety of our community and will strive to maintain our superior level of service even in these times of austerity. We encourage public input, and welcome your questions. A list of contacts is provided below. Akron Fire Co. Chief Akron Fire Co. President Village of Akron Mayor Town of Newstead Supervisor
