A look into the final touches of an expertly fitted tuxedo When it comes to formal wear, our bespoke tailors know that details like fabric make all the difference. - Barathea fabrics are the darkest shade of black and make for the most formal tuxedo attire. ... - Wool fabrics with slight blends of silk give off a young crisp sheen which really makes the tuxedo look young and trendy. This works great for black as well as the blue tuxedos that are so popular now. - Formal wear fabrics must be lighter in weight than regular suit fabrics. You will have a tendency to sweat more at formal occasions so the lighter the fabric the more comfortable you will feel. - The most important fabric must be wrinkle and crease resistant. Nothing looks worse than a wrinkled tux and with photos today, every wrinkle will have more of a tendency to show.

Who says you can't wear stripes with stripes? Stripes are one of our favorite fall trends. We love their bold and rebellious nature. In the stripe there is something that resists enclosure within systems. - MICHEL PASTOUREAU... What do you think of stipes? Yay or nay? Let us know in the comments

The Alan David Fit Guarantee (https://goo.gl/MztPwp) When you pull a suit off the rack, it might "fit" but a #suit should do much more than look OK when you wear it. A custom garment from Alan David Custom will fit perfectly. Our suits effortlessly complement your figure and they will hold up each time you wear it. A perfect fit doesn't come easily, over the last 90 years our team of tailors have mastered the art of the perfect fit. The first step to creating a custom fit is ...the ability to take proper measurements, the second step is creating the pattern from those measurements. An incorrect measurement can throw off the entire look of the final product. The fitting team here at Alan David Custom are skilled enough that our clients almost never require alterations. In fact, if your garment requires more than two fittings, we will either re-cut or refund your garment. No questions asked. It's time for you to make an appointment to visit our team and schedule a fitting. Each client that walks through our doors receives their own unique paper pattern. This is superior to "semi-custom" suit providers which use a stock pattern and make slight modifications. Style is Timeless (https://goo.gl/ma6yGA) Oscar Wilde once wrote about #style, "A well-tied tie is the first serious step in life." Charles Hix, another acclaimed writer once wrote, "Looking good isn't self-importance; it's self-respect." Next time you're considering a custom suit in New York City but think that it's too much of a statement, remember the prose of both these great writers. A carefully designed and constructed suit makes a huge difference in the impressions you... make each day. Our latest blog post phrases it like this: A finely tailored custom suit is not style over substance but style introducing your substance. Curious about some other oft-overlooked style rules when it comes to wearing a custom suit? Pay attention to the lapel of the suit, let this feature define your tie. The width of the lapel, generally, should match the width of your tie. Another factor to remember is the features of your body not covered by the suit. Namely, your hair. Remember that hair is a critical part of your outfit. The average gentleman is due for a haircut every 6 weeks - don't wait for your friends or relatives to make comments about your look having grown a big "shaggy". Ready to elevate your style? Come on in and see the team at Alan David Custom to get fitted for a bespoke suit. You can request a fitting through our website, just follow the link above. #NYC #customsuit

New to the Custom Suit Game? Read On! (https://goo.gl/w9CXi1) Even if you've only got a single #suit in your closet currently, or even a wardrobe that is currently suit-less (gasp) the team at Alan David Custom wants to help introduce you to the idea of a bespoke suit. If your initial reaction is to head down to the chain store and get a made-to-measure option, pause for a moment and consider a few reasons why a custom suit might be a better use of your time and your money. ... There's an inherent level of quality and longevity that an off-the-rack alternative cannot match. Once you see the level of detail that goes into a fitting, and the hand-made pattern making along with a basted fitting, we think you'll be convinced this is a better value for your money. In fact, when you consider how many times you will be able to wear a custom suit compared to a made-to-measure suit, the cost per wear is significantly in the favor of a custom suit. To make the option even more attractive for first-time buyers, Alan David Custom has an opportunity to save money. First-time buyers are eligible to receive the following discounts: $100 off every custom made suit $50 off every custom made sports coat $100 off every custom made tuxedo $100 off every custom made top coat 10% off every custom made trouser 10% off every custom made shirt Schedule a fitting through our website! IS Silicon Valley The Reason Americans Are Dressing More Casually At Work (https://goo.gl/JbSQkW) There was a time in history when showing up to the #office in anything less than a full suit would have seemed crazy. Even "casual Friday" required a certain level of polish on the manner of dress. These days, with the exception of certain industries, a suit in the office might make someone appear over-dressed. So, what caused this shift in business attire? One article in The Atl...antic suggests that Silicon Valley might be behind the shift. Today, though, the term "business casual" is nearly obsolete for describing the clothing of a workforce that includes many who work from home in yoga pants, put on a clean T-shirt for a Skype meeting, and don't always go into the office. The fact that a California industry fueled the origin of a new office style is hardly coincidental. The state became the epicenter of casual dress in the 1930s, and laid claim to both a thriving garment sector and the cultural influence to define fashion trends for the country at large. We encourage you to click on the link above to check out the complete article. Buying a Suit Online - Do's and Don'ts (https://goo.gl/Zypdbw) It is possible these days to order a #suit online and have the garment delivered directly to your doorstep without having to step foot inside a store. If this is actually a good approach for looking your best for the money you spend is another conversation. As we've noted before on the Alan David Custom page, there are very few individuals who will fit perfectly into an off-the-rack suit. Online suit orders do hav...e some ability to customize the fit, to a limited extent. If that is your approach to your next suit, we found this article from The Good Man Project contained some helpful advice: Be Attentive Towards the Small Things Sometimes it pays to sweat the small stuff. Not many men pay attention to this aspect, but the buttons on your suit deserve adequate thought and consideration too. Examine whether or not they are securely attached to the suit, and if they fit properly into the button holes. Button up the suit jacket and see if it sits evenly on your body. Also remember that even when your suit arrives, you'll probably want to budget in a trip to your local tailor for any alterations or changes that might not have translated to an online order. Simple Rules for a Bespoke Wardrobe (https://goo.gl/tW6HsX) The term "bespoke" comes from the original word "bespeak". Tailors during the 17th-century used to keep all their supplies and tailoring materials on the premises or in their homes. When their customers needed their services, a customer would literally point and "speak" about which kind of fabric they would like to use for their desired garment. Providing bespoke suits is what we've been doing for the past 90 years a...t Alan David Custom in New York City. Our customers receive completely custom patterns and a fit that a made-to-measure option just can't compete with, both in the short-term and the long-term. Still, you need to be smart about the approach to the creation of a bespoke suit. There are some rules we laid out on the Alan David Custom blog that you might want to review before your next fitting. One important rule might be one you hadn't considered - keeping things simple: You do not need to get carried away with every characteristic of the suit. If this is your first foray into custom tailoring, go with navy, medium grey, charcoal, or another classic hue. Going with a standard color will make your suit more adaptable for various occasions - and to wear as independent items whenever that makes sense. Are You Breaking The Rules of Business Attire? (https://goo.gl/ma6yGA) When it comes to #business attire, the rules are fairly well-established, but that doesn't mean you can't put your own flare into your wardrobe each day. The team here at Alan David Custom recommends that everyone start with a bespoke suit. The fit a custom suit provides is second-to-none and will vastly outlast any made-to-measure option available. A custom suit allows a tailor to flatter the individual s...hape of your body in a way that "off the rack" options just can't compete with. It will provide you with that special something that sets your look apart from the rest. When you factor in the cost per wear of a custom suit and compare that to the lifetime wearability of an off the rack option, custom suits become a much better value. But what next? We're going to borrow a few guidelines from the folks at Buzzfeed for some unspoken rules of the suit. We'll link to the full article later on, here are a few of our favorites: The width of the tie should match the width of the lapel. A pocket square adds an extra level of polish, but make sure it doesn't match your tie in either pattern or fabric choice. You should be able to slip your hand between your chest and your buttoned jacket such that it feels snug, but with room to move. Need To Dr-Wrinkle Your Suit in a Pinch? (https://goo.gl/wnRQRk) Most of us are able to plan effectively for cleaning and pressing a #suit. The week before that interview, or that wedding or that black-tie gala many of us make the trip over to the cleaners and come back with a perfectly crisp clean garment. But not always. Sometimes you don't notice when the suit falls off the hanger in the car on the way to the hotel and when you arrive you're staring straight into a wrinkle...d set of trousers and a jacket. Great, so now what? Not to worry, the Alan David Custom team is in your corner here. In a pinch, if you've got access to a shower and a bathroom you'll be able to hit the "reset" button on a wrinkled suit. Here's what our blog post on the subject suggests: Take the suit into the bathroom. Turn the hot water on in your shower. Hang the jacket up anywhere, perhaps on the shower rod. Just make sure that it doesn't get wet. Hang the pants from the bottoms on a clip hanger. The weight of the waistband coupled with the steam coming from the hot water in the shower will take out all those wrinkles that you get, in the inner thigh area in particular. Unconscious Actions That Impact First Impressions (https://goo.gl/ma6yGA) In our #society, first impressions are incredibly important. Whether it's your first day of class, or an important job interview, or a meeting with a potential client - the first impression you make is going to set the tone for the rest of the interaction. We wanted to discuss an interesting article from Fast Company which highlighted some other factors that can subconsciously influence first impression...s. These tips are designed to serve as a benefit for you all moving forward. Handshakes Matter The article discusses the importance of a handshake within a first impression. In the context of a job interview, for example, a firm handshake while maintaining eye contact with the interviewer can go a long way. In fact, the Journal of Applied Psychology suggested that especially for women, this action can lead to a higher likelihood of acquiring the job. The next tip is something that is something that is close to our hearts, the time-tested tradition of wearing a suit. Here's what the article says: Suits Still Work With business attire getting more casual, you might be tempted to skip the suit, but research published in the Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management finds that clothes have a big influence on first impressions. A tailored suit makes a male look more confident, successful, wealthy, and flexible than a non-tailored suit, and female applicants wearing masculine clothing appear more forceful and aggressive, and they're more likely to be hired, according to the study.
