Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894 as a tribute to the many contributions and accomplishments of hard-working American workers. We hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day with your friends and families!

National Wildlife Day is observed twice a year: on Sep. 4 and Feb. 22 to spread awareness about endangered species and their habitats. It also recognizes the individuals dedicated to preserving wildlife and educating others about the threats that animals face and ways they can help.

Attention: If you are a resident of New York in need of rental assistance, you’re encouraged to apply for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). The eviction moratorium expires today, but state officials say renters who have put in an application will be protected from eviction for one year. Visit the link below to learn more and apply.

National Dog Day celebrates all dog breeds, pure and mixed, and helps raise awareness about dogs currently living in shelters. Vaccine Announcement There will be a walk-in COVID-19 vaccination clinic available at the Altamont Fair! The clinic will operate from noon-7:30pm every day the Fair is open (today-Sunday, August 22nd). We hope to see you at the Fair!

This week, the Albany County Legislature unanimously approved a law intended to safeguard restaurants by preventing delivery services like DoorDash from being able to sell their food on web platforms without the restaurants consent. This law, The Restaurant Protection Law, requires third-party delivery services to have a written agreement with a restaurant before selling its food on their sites. The law will also allow restaurants to benefit from Internet sales. Thank you to Mark Grimm - Albany County Legislator for sponsoring this bill and for advocating for restaurants in Albany County.

There should be no debate, Gov. Cuomo has abused his power and is unfit for office. We encourage all of our colleagues in the Albany County Legislature to join us in calling for the governor's immediate resignation.

Over the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the value of Zoom meetings. Remote meetings allowed us the flexibility to increase public participation, live-stream meetings and increase transparency to the legislative process. While it is not our desire or intention to conduct meetings solely on Zoom, it is a helpful way to supplement in-person meetings that could be utilized going forward.
