We are responding to a main break on Hackett Blvd near Academy Road. It is on a 16" main and customers in the area may see a slight drop in pressure after we shut the main to isolate the break. Temporary discoloration may be experienced until the main is shut. The water is safe but we recommend avoid doing laundry while the discoloration exists. Service to Albany Academy may be impacted.
We completed a repair on our finished water transmission main in Delmar, and returning the system to normal operating conditions. At this time, the change in direction of flow in the water distribution system may cause a short period of discolored water at a few locations in the city. The water is safe. You can run cold water to clear your plumbing. If the condition persists, please call our Dispatch at 518-434-5322.
We are expecting significant rainfall Christmas Eve into Christmas Day, with heaviest rain expected overnight. This rainfall will be on top of snow melt from unseasonably warm temperatures. We expect street flooding at intersections and low lying areas that are typical locations for flooding during heavy rain events. The Water Department is continuing efforts to open as many catch basins as we can. The public should be advised to drive with caution when encountering street flooding, and some sidewalk and pedestrian pathways may be flooded as well. Any flooding calls to the Department (518-434-5322) over the Holiday will be answered and addressed in the order received
Please help our AWD crews and Albany Fire Department by clearing snow around fire hydrants....quick access to cleared hydrants will make access easier for our firefighters...every second counts!

Happy Thanksgiving from Albany Water! Pictured here, a turkey in the tree knocking down crab apples for the rest to feast on. The photo was taken last year at our office in North Albany.
Much of Albany's water and sewer infrastructure is over 100 years old. Your water/sewer bill helps pay for necessary repairs and upgrades as well as daily maintenance to guarantee the delivery of clean water and the removal of wastewater and stormwater. www.albanyny.gov/waterrates

We recently completed 10 lead service replacements on Spring Street! By replacing lead pipes with copper, we help reduce potential lead exposure in drinking water. The replacements were funded by a NYSDOH - New York State Health Department Grant. We also increased efficiency by collaborating with City of Albany Department of General Services to perform this work ahead of their scheduled pavement and sidewalk improvements on the street. While repairing a cast iron main at Broadway & Colonie St., we found an old wooden water pipe - dating back to before 1800! The wood pipe was no longer in use, but still hanging around under our streets. After finding it, we were able to remove the wooden pipe.
Time lapse shows our progress on the renovation of old building at our Water Filtration Plant. Previously, concrete decking from the roof was falling off and preventing us from using this building. Now, with the concrete decking completely removed, the next steps will be cleaning the building interior and installing the new roof. #InvestInInfrastructure
Our water gets us going in the morning. Without Albany's reliable water supply and water system, we couldn’t enjoy our morning cup of coffee. #NationalCoffeeDay #NoWaterNoCoffee #ValueWater
During water main repairs at S. Pearl & Old S. Pearl in Albany, we found some old, burnt newspaper from 1926! The photo shows the St. Louis Cardinals - the World Series Champions from that year.

It's #ClimateWeek! The 5,000 acres of forestland surrounding Albany's drinking water reservoirs are protected through a conservation easement with Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy. #ClimateFact: An acre of mature forest can capture a ton of carbon every year, and protecting forests are among the cheapest and most effective ways to store carbon and help combat climate change. https://www.albanyny.gov//WaterAndWaterSupply/SustainableF
If you are a business, school or other facility preparing to reopen, it is important to freshen your building's water system. When water is not actively being used, stagnant water will remain in the pipes, leading to opportunities for potential bacteria growth, taste and odor issues and a risk for Legionnaire’s Disease.
