How botox works Please note that the infographic is not ours and was done by Renee Gordon. The common anti-wrinkle treatments that you hear about such as #botox or #dysport are from the Botulinum toxin family. Botulinum toxin blocks Acetylcholine receptors in the muscle and prevents them from contracting which is why you get a relaxation of the muscle and a reduction in appearance of wrinkles. Botox and Dysport can also be used as preventative measures against wrinkles. For ...example, if you notice that you furrow your eyebrows a lot but haven’t developed the wrinkle yet, injection botox can minimize muscle contractions between the eyebrows thereby delaying/preventing a deep wrinkle from forming between the eyebrows.
