@JonathasdeAndrade’s artist book Manual para 2 em 1 presents a series of images in which two young Brazilian carpenters work to fuse two single beds together to create a double bed. Metaphorically, the instruction manual seems to suggest the steps to be followed to produce a stable, united couple. The implication of romantic union, however, is made both ambiguous and humorous through the impersonal aesthetic and pragmatic tone of a furniture building manual. Published b...y #AlexanderandBonin Publishing in 2015, Manual para 2 em 1 was printed in silkscreen on 15 pages of chipboard. Each book is signed and numbered by the artist, and enclosed in a custom slipcase. The edition was printed at #AxelleEditions in Brooklyn and hand-bound by Brett Groves in Oswego, NY. In André Breton 2016, #FernandoBryce reproduces an ARTnews advertisement for Breton’s second expanded edition of Le Surréalisme et la Peinture, a collection of essays published in French in 1945 by Les Éditions Françaises Brentano while Breton was in temporary exile in New York. By replicating an advertisement for #AndréBreton’s book, @fernando_bryce not only points to the use of French as the language of cultural elites but also underlines the visual influence of Surrealist painting on the nascent movement of Abstract Expressionism in America. With André Breton, Bryce re-signifies an important transitional art historical period while exploring the internationalization of modern art and New York’s establishment as the center of artistic activity at the end of World War II. #AlexanderandBonin
