Happy Valentine's Day to all our lovely families and staff!

We can't get enough of these wonderfully colorful and exotic birds that the 1st and 2nd graders have been studying. This one is the Northern Rosella Parrot is 29-32 centimeters long. It weighs 90-110 grams. It has blue, black, white, and red feathers. It eats seeds, grass, and flowers. The Northern Rosella Parrot lives in grassy forests and woodlands. It lives in Northern Australia. Its predators are rufous owls. It can live up to 15 years. Two interesting facts about my bird are: 1) It has a long tail with 12 feathers, 2) It is shyer than other rosellas.

Here's another! This is my favorite project ever! The Spangled Cotinga is 13-20 inches long. It weighs 18-57 grams. It is turquoise, red, and black. It eats fruit. The Spangled Cotinga lives in the Amazon Rainforest in South America. Its predators are falcons and buzzards. It lives for 18 years. Three interesting facts about my bird are: 1) They only eat fruit, 2) They do not sing, 3) They are hunted for their feathers.

Our 1st and 2nd graders are at it again: "The Golden-Headed Quetzal is 33-36 centimeters long. It weighs 154-182 grams. It has green, brown, red, and gold feathers. The Golden-Headed Quetzal eats fruit. It lives in cloud forests in South America. It lives for 25 years. Three interesting facts about my bird are: 1) It is a quiet bird, 2) It has heterodactyl feet (2 toes face forward, 2 toes face backwards). -- Aren't they cool?

A third bird that the 2nd grade have been studying is the Sri Lankan Brown Fish Owl. It is diurnal which means they are awake during the day. The females are bigger than the males. They grow up to be 48-58cm. They have a weight of 1,105-1,308 grams. Some Hindu’s believe that the feathers and bones of the bird will bring them good luck. They are sacrificed to Lakshmi. They eat crabs, frogs, fish, lizards, and snakes. @alexander.robertson.school @joelsartore
