From the Gottman podcast with Brene Brown.. "I did not want to marry someone like me.. I don't want a clone... similarity is not the basis of attraction. The problem is we then try to turn our partner into ourselves... because I am perfect and you are not like me !" lots about living in a relationship in covid. https://brenebrown.com//brene-with-drs-john-and-julie-got/

Tammy has recently joined the Alkira team as one of our graduate interns! She is currently finishing her MA in Marriage & Family Therapy at Northcentral University, and has a special interest in working with couples and families dealing with relationship conflict, parenting issues, acculturation challenges, and trauma. Tammy brings her warmth and compassion into session with her clients, and doesn't shy away from the "active and continuous work" needed in therapy.

We at Alkira are working to understand how to best support our BIPOC loved ones, neighbors, and clients. Systemic and racial trauma have huge impacts on mental and relational health, including increased risk for PTSD, increased levels of anxiety, and more. We are here, we are listening.

Seeing someone's face and hearing their voice trigger different reactions in our brain than reading texts or emails. Make sure you're getting some much needed talk time in with your loved ones, and give yourself permission to take some additional space from people who typically seem to exhaust you. #mentalhealth #alkiratherapy
