An advantage to finishing feeder cattle is that there is no need for winter hay. This allows us to convert several hay fields into lush pature. These additional pastures are then used to implement an intensive rotational grazing system keeping the cattle on the freshest and most nutrient rich grass while reducing stress and parasite load. The end result is better daily rate of gain and a higher quality finished product!
Our last "kid" of the season, a last minute doeling born this evening. She will be a welcome addition to our "Angelica Boer Cross" breeding program some day! All of our other does kidded out by the first week in April. This doe was a late heat cycle last year.
Our newest "buck" out of our prized "Goldfinger" SA Boer line.
Springtime is no doubt the most expensive time of the year for local farmers in the Northeast. Fencing, equipment maintenance, new construction, tillage and birthing of livestock are just a few of the high-expense items that small producers must work through in the spring to ensure they will be able to deliver their goods when the market demands. This year has proven no different. We ask that you please remember to support your local farmers and small businesses. Thank You!
Every 2 months eggs are selected from each of our two separate breeding coops for incubation. The eggs are washed and candled before final selection is made for incubation. The candle process will show cracks or blood spots and reveal the air pocket within the egg. Selected eggs are marked with the initials of the respective rooster from which they were gathered and the groups are placed in separate incubators. This allows us to track hatch rates. Our layers are produced right here through our own small hatching process. Cockrels not selected for breeding are processed for meat. We sell eggs, live chicks, adolescent birds, and layers, as well as whole processed meat chickens seasonally.
