Where are my avocado lovers?! There are so many versatile ways to eat this wonderful fruit. Sliced on multigrain toast by itself or for a hearty and filling meal, add an egg and your favorite cheese. So good! ... Add tomatoes, bacon (or plant based alternative) and lettuce for a California BLT. Add to salads, tacos, eggs, rice bowls, sushi or just eat it by itself with a spoon & a sprinkle of salt. My avocado go-to is with eggs, some greens, @traderjoes everything bagel seasoning and @sietefoods almond flour tortillas. What is your favorite way to enjoy avocado? See more

Love this quote by @tarabrach I've been thinking a lot about acceptance lately. Anyone else struggle with accepting things they cannot control? It's so damn uncomfortable wanting to make change, but knowing that you cannot control external circumstances or people that influence your ability to have what you want or need. But acceptance isn't about anyone else, it's about you. Holding on to anger, fear, frustration, insecurity and dwelling over your mistakes or limi...tations only hurts you! Only when we accept the things that we cannot control can we move on and thrive. Channel those regrets into something you actually can control, like moving your body, calling a friend, learning a new skill, doing something creative or advocating for something you believe in. Fiber. We all need it and most of us don't get enough of it. Study after study has demonstrated how essential fiber is for gut health, lowering cholesterol, managing blood sugar, and supporting a healthy weight. Even if you're eating a decent amount of produce, getting enough fiber can be tough. Having a big salad for lunch is not going to cut it when it comes to getting enough fiber. The recommended amount of daily fiber intake is 25 grams for women and 38 grams f...or men. Most Americans get only 15 grams of fiber per day. Here are a few foods that are packed with fiber to help you hit that target. Raspberries are packed with antioxidants and fiber, so this sweet fruit packs a huge punch! Green peas are fantastic in salads or on their own. I love adding the to @eatbanza pasta for an insanely high fiber meal. Broccoli However you eat it...steamed, roasted or raw, it’s a great choice. Chia Seeds- top your yogurt or smoothie with these or even add them to a bowl of oatmeal. Barley is another delicious option. Add it to soups for a hearty meal. Lentils are so incredibly versatile! They can be used to bulk up meat or as a meat alternative as well as a filling addition to salads. What is your favorite fiber rich food? See more

Intuitive eating is incredibly popular right now and for good reason. It’s more about trusting yourself more than anything else. Being able know what you need and how to support your body with nutrition is incredibly liberating and empowering. Curious about experimenting with intuitive eating? Try these 5 steps to stop stressing about food.... Ditch the diet. Prescriptive plans and diets are the antithesis of intuitive eating. When you follow a diet, you are relying on someone else's rules and guidelines to tell you how much and what to eat. Honor your hunger. Eat when you are hungry, and maybe even before you get hungry! Most people don't really know that they are hungry until it's way past the point that they should have eaten. Feeling hangry? You should have eaten 1 - 2 hours ago! Make peace with food. It's there to nourish you both physically and mentally. Stop fearing it, and embrace it as an incredible gift to support your wellbeing. Practice mindful eating. Slow down, pay attention to how your food tastes and feels. Savor and enjoy it! No more food rules. You don't have to eat according to someone else's rules. Be flexible and have faith that you'll be ok if things don't always go as planned. Have you tried intuitive eating or any of these steps? Let me know your experiences in the comments. See more

Eating breakfast has been one of those trends that comes and goes. It’s great to start your day with a healthy, balanced meal- meaning you’re getting carbs and protein. Oats are a great way to do this! You can add an assortment of toppings to them, from nut butters and fruit to yogurt. Think of it like a blank canvas for your ideal breakfast. Do you eat breakfast?

If you have PCOS, you know first hand how devastating this condition can be for women. Infertility, acne, and hair loss are just a few of the upsetting symptoms that this condition causes In my practice I've found that for many women with PCOS, making nutrition changes isn't enough to fully get your hormones balanced. A combination of the right diet, movement, stress management and supplements is best approach in treating this condition.... Here are a few research based supplements that I recommend for my clients to help balance hormones naturally. NAC (or N-Acetyl L-Cysteine) helps replenish the body's own powerful antioxidants to combat inflammation, which is one of the root causes of PCOS. Studies have shown that NAC also improves insulin resistance and reduces testosterone levels as well as hirsutism (unwanted facial hair) in women with PCOS, while also improving menstrual regularity. Inositol is a type of carbohydrate that plays a role in insulin signaling. Several studies have found that inositol improves in insulin sensitivity in women with PCOS and may be just as effective as Metformin for this population. Berberine is an herb that also helps with insulin resistance. In a randomized controlled trial of 89 women with PCOS and insulin resistance, berberine treatment was compared with Metformin for 3 months. It was found that berberine effectively improved body composition, lipid levels (which are often imbalanced in PCOS due to sugar dysregulation), sex hormone-binding globulin, fasting plasma glucose, fasting insulin, and insulin resistance. Cinnamon powder has also been shown to improve insulin resistance, glucose metabolism, and lipid profiles in women with PCOS. Have you tried any of these supplements for PCOS? Are you dairy-free or just looking to try out a few dairy free options? I was featured in this @byrdiebeauty article written by @lleighweingus discussing the top vegan ice cream’s on the market. Here's the scoop on the best and worst options out there. @benandjerrys It looks delicious, but the ingredients list is questionable. Soy bean oil, corn syrup, and locust bean gum to name a few. My opinion? Pass. @oatly I love their oat milk! However their vegan ice crea...m doesn’t seem to follow the same high standards. Three different sweeteners, a made man oil and guar gum are just a few of the ingredients. @halotopcreamery One of the more known brands, it does contain protein and calcium. However it does have undisclosed ingredients and should be eaten in moderation. @coconutbliss This has a better set of ingredients and as long as you enjoy coconut, it’s a delicious treat. An entire pint has 800 calories, so it’s definitely one that you need to eat just a serving at a time. @vanleeuwenicecream The clear winner out of the group, this brand has both a deliciously creamy flavor and fantastic ingredients. Made with no necessary additives, this ice cream uses cane sugar, coconut cream, cashews and top notch chocolate. Fun fact, it comes from a small family-run French company that uses raw cacao from eight single biodynamic and organic plantationsno added soy lecithin either! See more

I get a lot of questions about nutrition for healthy skin from my clients. Yes, eliminating certain foods (gluten, dairy, sugar) can have dramatic results in improving people's skin, not enough people are talking about what foods you can add to help support a glowing complexion. One of my fav nutrients to focus on adding for healthy skin is vitamin A - also known as retinol. Synthetic retinoids have been commonly prescribed for the treatment of several ski...n conditions, including acne, eczema, and psoriasis since the 1980s. This nutrient contributes to healthy skin by promoting skin cell growth and turnover. It helps fight acne by inhibiting oil secretion in the skin and decreasing androgen production. If you have rough, dry, scaly skin and/or small raised bumps on the back of your arms (known as hyperkeratosis pilaris) it may be a sign that you are vitamin A deficient. Keep in mind that it’s best to get your vitamin A from food because this fat-soluble vitamin has a high risk of toxicity, especially from medications, supplements, and skincare products. The best food sources of vitamin A come from animal products, but your body can also make vitamin A from certain compounds in plants known as carotenoids. Beta-carotene is a carotenoid that can be converted to vitamin A in the body. The best food sources of beta-carotene are: Orange and yellow fruits and vegetables like Carrots Pumpkin Apricots Cantaloupe Sweet potatoes More foods for healthy skin on the blog http://www.allgreatnutrition.com//the-best-foods-for-healt See more
