Waiting is never a good idea. If you neglect to address your dental problems at the right time it can cost significantly more. No matter how minor the problem, take care of it at first signs of discomfort.

A digital panoramic xray captures a picture of a patient’s entire mouth in just one image. When diagnosing using a panoramic image we are able to see all of the teeth, many bones of the head and neck, as well as some other anatomical structures. Unlike regular bitewing x-rays which show a close up of view of the chewing surfaces of your teeth, a panoramic x-ray allows for diagnosing more than just regular dental concerns, like cavities or gum disease. Rather, this view enables us to see other important issues that may be occurring in the surrounding tissue and jaw bones like oral cancer or other abnormalities, like blocked salivary ducts and other conditions that would not be visible in a bitewing x-ray.

Bruxism is the involuntary or habitual grinding of the teeth, typically during sleep. This can cause attrition, abfractions, and gum recession. Attrition is a type of tooth wear caused by tooth-to-tooth contact, resulting in loss of tooth tissue, usually starting at the incisal or occlusal surfaces. Abfractions are a form of non-carious tooth tissue loss that occurs along the gingival margin. In other words, abfraction is a mechanical loss of tooth structure that is not caused by tooth decay, located along the gum line. Gingival recession, also known as receding gums, is the exposure in the roots of the teeth caused by a loss of gum tissue and/or retraction of the gingival margin from the crown of the teeth.
