Please Join Us! In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the 2nd Vatican Council and the Year of Faith announced by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, All Saints Parish and St. Lucy’s Parish invite all to participate in a symposium on Saturday, April 20th titled: Surviving as a People of God: Vatican II in our Changing World. The symposium is intended to gather those committed to Vatican II teaching and spirit to reflect together on the future of the Church at this significant m...oment in history under the leadership of our new Pope Francis. The goal of the day-long workshop is to identify practical actions that both individuals and communities can take in moving forward with faith. Keynote speaker for the event is Rev. John Sivalon, M.M., immediate past General Superior of the world- wide Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers. As a Maryknoll priest, Fr. Sivalon served as a missioner in Tanzania before serving as Superior General of the Order from 2001-2008. His academic credentials include a Masters Degree in Sociology and a Doctorate in Theology from St. Michael’s College, Toronto. Fr. Sivalon currently teaches Theology at the University of Scranton and his writing explores the mission of the Church in the contemporary world. His years of missionary work and leadership of Maryknoll give him unique insight with which to lead the day’s activities. The format for the workshop will consist of two interactive presentations by Fr. Sivalon, each followed by small group discussions leading to the development of action steps. The symposium will be held at the Hillside Building (the former Solace School), 101 East Avenue in Syracuse, NY (located at the corner of Salt Springs Rd.). Registration is at 9:30am and the program will begin at 10:00am. Box lunch will be provided and a closing Prayer Service will conclude the event at 4pm. Registration is $10, payable at the door. Preregistration is encouraged by phone at 472-9934 ext.4 OR by email at [email protected].
