For Black History Month, we would like to give appreciation to Afro-Latinos that have helped their communities and strived for equality. An example is Roberto Clemente who has throughout his life has fought hard to help those less fortunate in Latin countries and fought for equality both in the US and in Latin countries. Him and Martin Luther King Jr. met each other on Roberto’s farm and since then he has been an activist to end segregation. Any chance he would speak out agai...nst Jim Crow Laws that he was affected by when playing in the South. In Puerto Rico, he would hold free baseball clinics free for kids to be able to participate in baseball. He was also a humanitarian that would help countries by delivering financial aid and relief supplies. Roberto Clemente demonstrated exemplary actions throughout his life and was remembered through the Roberto Clemente Award for players who is involved in their community, sportsmanship, and contributions for their team. Our hearts and prayers go out to Jessica Asencio’s family. Despite the loss of the physical presence of our beloved Jessica, we have fond memories of the great legacy she has left. Jessica dedicated her life to supporting Latino causes including Women of ALPFA and was a staunch leader as a Diversity Champion at JPMorgan Chase. Jessica touched so many lives and was a mentor and master connector for many of us that benefited from her selfless approach to life. She depicted bou...ndless optimism, energy, and a true desire to make a human difference in the communities we live and beyond. We hope that when you look back on all the good memories you had with Jessica that you will have a kind smile and know she will be smiling with you.
