American Friends of the Louvre 16.11.2020

The exhibition 'El Greco: Ambition and Defiance' - jointly organized by the Art Institute of Chicago, the Réunion des musées nationaux-Grand Palais, and the Musée du Louvre, has been extended through September 7 at the Art Institute of Chicago. Domenico Theotokopoulos, known as El Greco (15411614), was of Cretan origin. He began his training in the Byzantine tradition before heading to Venice, then Rome, to refine his education. Yet it was in Spain that his art flourished ...and became firmly established in the 1570s. The artist imported Titian’s color, Tintoretto’s boldness, and Michelangelo’s artistic force to the Iberian Peninsula. This association, original yet consistent in regard to his own development, gives El Greco a distinctive position in the history of painting. He was the last great master of the Renaissance and the first great painter of the Golden Age. El Greco, 'The Vision of Saint John', ca. 160814. #ElGreco #TheArtInstituteofChicago #artinstitutechi #MuseeduLouvre #MuseeLouvre #GrandPalais #le_grand_palais #Renaissance #GoldenAge #traditionandmodernity #color #boldness #force #mustsee

Join the Young Patrons Circle for an illustrated talk on the development of Art Deco in New York, on Thursday, July 23, at 5:00 P.M. EDT. Long associated with the famed 'Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes' of 1925, where the movement made its international debut, what we now know as Art Deco in America had its roots in earlier forms of architecture and in the conception of the skyscraper as developed after 1916. The event will be presented b...y YPC member David V. Griffin, CEO, and Founder of Landmark Branding LLC. We are pleased to share the zoom link upon request. #artdeco #newyork #skyscraper #architecture #ralphwalker #arttalk #youngpatrons
