Nathan Owens was recognized by the Pro National MX circuit with the Legends and Heroes award for his service to the community. He was recognized for coordinating EMS resources for motocross races, service in NYC at the beginning of the COVID outbreak and providing EMS coverage during the Inauguration among other accomplishments. Congratulations Nate!

AMR units from Cooperstown, Corning, Intermountian and Syracuse came together this last weekend to provide standby coverage for the motocross races at the Unadilla Pro National MX

Happy EMS Week. This last year, EMS has been on the frontlines of the pandemic, multiple hurricanes, wildfires and so much more. Thank you to our teams for all you do. Throughout EMS week, take some time to reflect, share stories, celebrate and know that each one of you are valued and appreciated. We truly are stronger together.

Today is National Therapy Animal Day, the perfect day to shout-out our GMR Therapy Dog team. Our furry friends are committed to bringing comfort, happiness and support to GMR crew members nationwide. The Program has qualified therapy dogs who provide effective pet-provided therapy services in their community. These dogs have provided comfort and support to our crews after hard days, long deployments and stressful situations. We are so happy to have these dogs as a part of our GMR family.

One of our ambulances struck an owl overnight. The crew was transporting a patient at the time. What I was not aware of was the story which was relayed to me a short time ago by the Paramedic on the crew: "Hey, figured I’d share a very happy moment for me it’s not every day you get to save a life let alone an animal’s life! While my partner was driving, he had an owl hit the grill of our ambulance. We didn’t think anything of it as it was a small animal and wouldn’t likely c...ause much of any damage. After dropping off our patient we went out to check the damage. Little did we know we had carried that beautiful owl with its dinner it had just caught with us to Bassett and it was injured! I contacted dispatch to find someone to come get it because I wasn’t just going to let it die when we could save this beautiful creature! We placed the owl in a box for the deputy sheriff who was going to help the creature for the night and bring him to a friend that will rehab him! I am so thankful we could save its life even if it was only a small, wonderful animal!" Apparently, the owl was both shocked and also to some degree, stuck in the grill. The deputy was from the Otsego County Sheriff’s office and was apparently very happy to assist. We always hear about the bad and are surrounded by suffering so much. To have been able to help this animal was a very uplifting experience for the crew. Thank you to Paramedic Cassandra Patrick and EMT Jeremy Bostiwck for caring for all creatures great and small!
