Clients, I sent out an email this morning with updates. If you didn't see it, please check your spam folder. Since phase 2 started, I have been back to work for 2 weeks and I want to give all of you an update. There are specific guidelines by the State of NY we are following to keep everyone safe.

Yesterday Governor Cuomo announced that NYC will start Phase 2 on Monday, June 22nd. As far as we know, that means salons will be opening next week. I hope you are as excited as I am to go back. My schedule for July and August is Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (8:30am to 8pm). Clients, I sent out an email this morning with booking information. If you don't receive anything, check your spam folder or reach out and I will send it to you.

The body deals with stress in different ways and one of them is hair loss. Telogen Effluvium This is a reversible condition where hair falls out after a stressful event. The pandemic certainly qualifies.... If you start to notice that your hair is shedding in a few months, know that you have gone through or are experiencing a traumatic event. You may even notice pain, itchiness and stinging of the scalp before the hair sheds. The stress pushes large numbers of hair follicles into a resting phase. Typically, with this condition, about 30% of the hairs stop growing and go into their resting phase before falling out. Within a few months, those hairs can fall out. You may lose 300 hairs a day instead of the normal 100. The good news, it usually resolves itself in 6 to 9 months. To help your hair grow back healthy and strong, make sure to eat a diet that includes protein-rich foods like meat, eggs, fish, beans, grains and nuts. Iron-rich foods can also help. I certainly recommend taking a multi-vitamin that includes biotin. More than anything else, patience and staying centered are key.

These words were beautifully written by Gina Devine. This post perfectly captures how I am feeling and I contacted her to see if I could repost it. Please be safe. We can always fix your hair.

There’s truth to humor. The comeback will be greater than the setback. Let me explain why: *Box color is formulated so everyone and anyone can use it. Think of it like an average. However, not everyone’s hair type, condition or color are remotely the same. *Box dyes are formulated with maximum amounts of pigment and ammonia so that it’s able to work on most people, but not everyone. Contrast that with my bowl of color customized specifically for you.... *Box dyes use a standard formula that may over-process one person’s hair and under-process another. *$8 per box, $200 for a color correction after. *It might not cover your grey. Box color may stain the proteins on the hair, changing their chemical makeup. *Do not go by the color description name on the box. The names are open to interpretation. Anything that says golden/auburn/red will make your hair yellow/orange/red. *You are likely to dye your hair too dark. If your current single process color is lighter than your natural color, you cannot achieve this color with box dye. If you have highlights, box dye is not even an option. Highlights are done by picking up tiny pieces of hair and separating them from the other hair using a foil. Only a small percentage of your hair is actually colored. If you put box dye on your roots, you will be coloring all your hair at once. IT WILL NOT MATCH. Hope this helps.

March 16th, 2020 Hi Everyone, As new protocols and guidelines are put into place by NYC and the CDC, I believe that it is in everyone’s best interest to put a hold on any hair appointments for now. ... I will reach out directly to clients that have appointments booked over the next 3 weeks. We can discuss our options. I will start booking appointments as soon as it is safe again but it’s hard to say when that will be. With the news changing so quickly and the number of infections increasing, my priority is making sure that everyone is safe and healthy before having close contact with others. My family is staying home by ourselves to help NYC control this outbreak. I will keep you updated as soon as I can via email. Also, please follow me on Facebook and IG (@amyakivahair) for more information. Instead of doing hair, I’m going to be homeschooling my kids. Please, wish me luck on that endeavor. I look forward to seeing you and your hair soon. Please feel free to respond with any questions.

To many, New York is feeling like a scary place at the moment. The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is on everyone's mind and most of us are trying to navigate our daily lives. Prince + Broad is doing everything it can to offer a safe and clean space. Your health is our first concern. The salon is being cleaned daily with disinfectant and we are installing a hand sanitizer dispenser by the front door. I use Lysol wipes on my chair and my station after each client and there is also ha...nd sanitizer chairside. I also use it myself before and after each client. I ask that if you aren't feeling 100%, please let me know and I will be happy to reschedule your appointment. That will help us keep our environment as healthy as possible. If you have any concerns, questions or would like to book an appointment, please reach out. I look forward to seeing you and your hair soon.
