We finally arrived in Little Fork, Minnesota after a grueling, snowy, twenty two hour non stop drive to Gods country. Kris welcomed us at the gate of the sanct...uary with a smile and huge bear hug with a chorus of LGDs barking a big hello. We got Thelma and Louise all settled in to their new home. Thelma has taken on the big sister role and is definitely a huge source of comfort for Louise who is very shut down. Both sisters are very frightened but I could already see the relief in their eyes, they know that we are helping them. It’s going to take time and a lot of love for these two girls to trust and I am confident that they are now in capable, loving care. Kris, her husband Ron and their two granddaughters who run the sanctuary, have devoted their lives to taking care of over eighty livestock guardian dogs who would have never had a chance, if it wasn’t for their selflessness, love and dedication. When I first called Kris last week, she called me back immediately and said I am here for you and Thelma and Louise, whatever you need. She welcomed them into her program when they were already at full capacity, never once asking for anything in return. They need more kennels, fencing panels, insulated dog houses and other supplies that they would never ask for. Please find it in your heart to donate to this wonderful organization so that they can continue to do this life saving work. Thelma, Louise and countless others wouldn’t have a chance without them. All donations made on this post will go directly to EARS - Ever After Rescue & Sanctuary

Duke spent today at Feline Veterinary Medical Center, getting bloodwork and a much-needed dental. He came back minus two rotten teeth, but with his ducal dignit...y intact. Surprisingly, since he is around eight or nine years old, his bloodwork showed no significant findings. His kidneys are just fine. He is a funny cat, though, a non-stop commentator on everything that goes around him. For all we know, he is expressing his take on the current state of the nation. He seems to have a lot to say. He would be perfect for somebody who wants a cat that can keep up his end of the conversation. Duke is more than ready to leave his cage and move into a home of his own. He has been neutered, tested (negative for FIV and FeLV, vaccinated, and microchipped.

- Room 8 ( 19471968 ) Room 8 was a neighborhood cat who wandered into a classroom in 1952 at Elysian Heights Elementary School in Echo Park, California. He... lived in the school during the school year and then disappeared for the summer, returning when classes started again. This pattern continued without interruption until the mid-1960s. News cameras would arrive at the school at the beginning of the year waiting for the cat's return; he became famous and would receive up to 100 letters a day addressed to him at the school. Eventually, he was featured in a documentary called Big Cat, Little Cat and a children's book, A Cat Called Room 8. Look magazine ran a three-page Room 8 feature by photographer Richard Hewett in November 1962, titled "Room 8: The School Cat". Leo Kottke wrote an instrumental called "Room 8" that was included in his 1971 album, Mudlark. As he got older, Room 8 was injured in a cat fight and suffered from feline pneumonia, so a family near the school volunteered to take him in. The school's janitor would find him at the end of the school day and carry him across the street. His obituary in the Los Angeles Times rivaled that of major political figures, running three columns with a photograph. The cat was so famous that his obituary ran in papers as far away as Hartford, Connecticut. The students raised the funds for his gravestone. He is buried at the Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park in Calabasas, California.
