Anita's Angels

Update: While resting comfortably and pain free, Anita took her final breath last night. She is now free of any sickness or pain. Anita had beaten cancer everyday she graced this side of eternity. She did it with grace, honor, strength, and a beautiful smile. Anita will forever be in our hearts and minds. We will always remember her for the amazing friend, sibling, wife, and mother she is. Thank you all for your support along this journey we embraced on. I will post more information on the arrangements when they are finalized. I will always love you Anita. My wife, my daughters mommy, and my best friend.

As the hour approaches for Anita I would like to thank everyone for their support. At this time I am closing the invitation for visitors and keeping it to close family. The time is near for Anita to be next to God. Thank you again for all your love, prayers, and support. May she rest well and go in peace without pain.

I am opening an invitation to anyone who would like to see Anita. You may visit her between noon and 8pm any day if you'd like. Very good possibility Anita will be asleep when you are her, however I do not want to take the opportunity away from anyone to see her. As a fair warning, it is very difficult to see her in this condition. It is ok to feel sadness, give a hug, or even cry. We are at Niagara hospice 4675 Sunset dr Lockport NY 14094. There are two buildings in the parking lot when entering. Go to the building on the left. When signing in Anita is in suite 19.

Update: Over the past few days Anita has become in need of 24 hour care. She cannot be left alone. Her condition had worsened and the toxins in her blood have risen. As of today Anita will be taken out of our home and brought to Hospice house. This was an extremely difficult decision on my part and required the support and comfort of family to make it. Our goal is still to keep Anita comfortable and in good care. I will post an update when I know more. Thank you again for all your love, support, and prayer. Anita will be leaving us soon here on earth, but she will be forever in our hearts and memories.

Update: This is by far the most difficult thing I've ever had to post. Last Friday (7/1/16) Anita had gone for her treatment at Roswell as scheduled. After conversations with her oncologist and reviewing her blood work it had been determined that the Avastin treatments are not working. C.E.A. Markers in her blood (cancer markers) had risen from 25 the previous visit to 40 that day. The markers have been constantly rising over the last 4 months until this last one where it mad...e a large leap. This information led to conversations between myself, Anita, and her doctors in NYC & Roswell. It has been concluded that because your liver filters everything in your blood, and Anita's liver is very weak and sick, that the treatment is doing more harm than good. Anita and I have decided that she will not receive any further treatment as we are trying to hang onto every day possible. As of this past Friday (7/8/16) we have signed up for in-home hospice care for Anita. Our goal is to keep Anita as comfortable as possible while enjoying each and every day remaining. Anita and I would like to thank everyone from the bottoms of our hearts for all their support, love, and prayer through this entire process over the past 4+ years. We have recently informed Jocelyn of the reality of what is happening and that one day mommy will die. I wish that conversation on nobody. My heart shattered having to speak those words while looking into her innocent blue eyes. Anita will soon pass on to the other side of eternity and watch over all of us from heaven above. Anita has asked that we all do not remember her for this horrible sickness she has endured. She wishes us all to celebrate her life and remember her for whom she was prior to cancer. Anita has received the devastating news that medications and treatments are no longer working strong enough to keep the cancer or her bilirubin at a defensible level. Her doctors say that there is not much more they can do to stop the increased growth and toxicity in her body; estimating a timeframe from weeks to months for Anita. Anita has technically not stopped receiving treatments though. She will most likely be receiving a chemo on 6/17, that has a slim chance of actuall...y curing anything, but can allow extra time for Anita to be with her family. Any donations to Anita and Steve at this time will tremendously help the current and future financial burden this horrible disease has unrightfully thrown on their family. Please keep Anita, Steve and Jocelyn in your thoughts, and continue pray for strength to help endure this heartbreaking time. Had a follow up appointment at Roswell Monday. No blood work done since I'll be back for chemo in Friday so we'll see where the bilirubin and cancer markers are at. We already know this Avastin has a very slight chance of working but I figure it's worth a try even if it gets me a few extra days/weeks/month....I'll take any extra time I can to spend with my family. If it gets to the point where we know for a fact it's not working (cancer markers continue to increase), we'll ha...ve to stop as it'll put more strain on the liver and make it weaker. But until then, we go a few rounds in hopes that it even helps a little bit. Thank you to everyone for the thoughts and prayers and of course all the support! It does not go unnoticed and I am deeply grateful to have all you wonderful people in my life looking out for me! Keep them coming....reading all your comments does put my mind at ease
