Annie’s $5 Fashion Bling

During our Paparazzi Possible campaign in October, we extended a challenge to our $5 family to take the training offered by OnWatch which empowers participants ...to identify the signs of sex trafficking, how to report it, and what can be done to help prevent it. In true Paparazzi fashion, you answered the call, and in a short 24-hours, Paparazzi Consultants completed a record-number of OnWatch training sessions. This is what we mean when we say that while $5 jewelry may not change the world, those who wear it DO. For survivors of human trafficking, escaping is just the beginning of a long road to recovery. There is a very specific kind of support and rehabilitation needed to help thesesurvivors create a bright future. This includes medical and mental health services, community outreach, and victim advocacy programs. On top of that, these children needa safe place to call home while they begin their road to recovery, and the facilities that provide this type of aftercare rely heavily on private donations. Currently, there is a needfor over 100,000 beds for trafficking survivors in the United States, yet there are only 650 available! Creating safe havens where these children can heal is vital, and the @Malouf Foundation is up for the challenge. As the creators of OnWatch, the Malouf Foundation focuses on funding rescue missionsto free children living in slavery, outfitting aftercare centers for child survivors, and providing educational and employment opportunities for each child’s future. On this #GivingTuesday, we are honored to contribute to their mission by raising money for the first-of-its-kind, long-term residential therapeutic treatment center for child survivors of sex trafficking. This facility will become a blueprint upon which other centers will be built, setting a new standard for the type of aftercare these survivors deserve.
