DHSES today unveiled a new, free online Citizens Preparedness Training course. The 24-minute training offers New Yorkers a condensed version of what they would ...have learned during an in-person course. Topics include how to develop a family emergency plan, how to prepare your family and home for a potential emergency such as fire, what to do in specific situations such as active shooter, and covers evacuation or sheltering-in-place due to a life-threatening event, and much more. The training also discusses what to do when returning home after an emergency including re-entry procedures, checking for and documenting damage safely, addressing emotional and other personal needs in the aftermath of a catastrophic event, and being wary of post-disaster scams. The Cattaraugus County Department of Public Works has closed Eagle Street in the Town of Freedom, between State Rt. 98 and Cemetery Road due to bridge work being done on Freedom Bridge #27. This closure will continue through October 7th but will differ from other closures in that it will be closed only from 8:30am until 4pm Monday through Friday. An off-site detour has been posted for vehicular traffic.

: Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic Fire Prevention will not be conducted in the schools or at the firehall as it has been in the past. Sparky alongside the membership wants your children to still be able to learn the importance of fire prevention. Students that are attending school will be getting their fire safety calendars during school hours. Students that are attending school will be getting their fire safety calendars in the ...mail. Please stay safe and don't forget to check your smoke alarms.
