Both houses (The Senate and The Assembly) have included language in their one-house budget bills to restore funding for OPWDD supports & services including the 1% COLA (cost of living adjustment for our staff), 5% Aid to Localities reduction, 1% Medicaid targeted reduction, and more. In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we thank our great partner Crickler Vending Company, Inc. for their commitment to employing people with disabilities! During October, we are celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month and highlighting a few people we support who are employed through our Job Path program. Today we highlight Albert Colaiaco who works at Red Robin as a dishwasher. Albert was furloughed from his previous job when the restaurant closed for a while during the pandemic, and he had to look for a new job that would get him back to work sooner. He overcame the challenge with the help of his job coach...! Albert takes his job as an essential worker seriously. I wear my mask and I’m well protected, but I can’t let this virus slow me down! I’m lucky to have a job that people can depend on, he said. If they come out and get food they need a worker who loves doing their job like I do I love my job!

In honor of #NDEAM we celebrate Jamestown Container Companies for being a great ally and advocate for the individuals they hire, and for consistently demonstrating an inclusive and diverse environment. Congratulations to Tori Campbell, this year’s winner of the Kevin Walsh Award! Tori embodies all the attributes for this award. Her nominators say Tori is goal driven, eager to learn and is excited when new opportunities come to her attention. Established by his family in 1997, the award honors Kevin Walsh who had been enrolled in The Arc’s Vocational Services Program until his passing. The award recognizes an individual in a Vocational Program for his/her outstanding accomp...lishments during the previous year. Tori is currently enrolled in the MCC Experience as a certificate student and has been an inspiration to students and staff. Tori’s professors say she is role model for the other students she is always early to class, sits in the front row, completes all of her assignments, has a positive attitude and offers help to other students. Tori gives 100% to her vocational placements on campus. She has worked in the campus bookstore at the Brighton Campus. Tori’s future goals? She wants to get her GED and then enroll in a nursing program. Her ultimate dream is to work for the Arc of Monroe! How lucky would we be to have her? Congrats Tori!
