CRAIG SHEPERD & IAN DE BEER // ETCHED INTO STONE Opening Reception: Friday November 29, 7-11pm On view: November 29-December 14 2019 Exhibition Hours: by appointment Argus Gallery: 1896 Niagara Street, Buffalo, NY 14207 ... Etched into Stone is a presentation of paintings by artists Craig Sheperd and Ian de Beer. This showcase of aesthetically dissimilar bodies of work invites the viewer to ponder how varying personal experiences influence the artistic choices made by two individual painters, who share a longstanding history of cooperative creative output, and who are otherwise very much cut from the same cloth.

Repost Happy Birthday @annmuddy Popping in on my THIRTIETH BIRTHDAY to remind you guys that the closing reception/swap meet for UMPTEEN is tonight, 11/15 from 6-9 PM @argusgallery I’ll be bringing with me discarded projects, clothes, linens and other unused materials and suggest you do the same. Gather your recently Konmari’d closet you’ve been meaning to donate, those ratty towels and linens you’ve had since your freshman year of college, your abandoned craft projects, and... materials so long neglected they’re halfway to garbage and bring all that along with you. Maybe you’ll find something to use in your own creative pursuits or perhaps you’ll just skip having to stop at the thrift store and get to see some art while you’re at it! This SWAP MEET is an effort to encourage creative exchange outside a capitalist framework while simultaneously offering the potential to redirect unwanted fiber, art, and craft materials away from the landfill toward a more sustainable future. Hope to see you there, Buffalo!

Tonight! Ann Moody: Umpteen On view: October 11-November 16, 2019 Opening Reception: Friday October 11, 6-9pm Exhibition Hours: by appointment... Contact: Dana Tyrrell, Curator [email protected] | Argus Gallery 716.882.8100 Argus Gallery is pleased to announce Umpteen, an exhibition featuring the work of Buffalo artist Ann Moody. Curated by Dana Tyrrell, Moody’s solo exhibition explores the invisible art of labor, made manifest through quilts, tapestries and wall hangings. Moody’s intensely personal and laborious process is present within every stitch of their artwork; with materials culled from their own environment and up-cycled from second-hand stores, the artwork within Umpteen repurposes the cast-offs from fast fashion, craft rooms, and linen closets to make evident the excesses within textile production and the ubiquity of consumer culture. By highlighting these practices and tenets of capitalist culture and harnessing them as tools of creative labor, Moody moves the conversation from union halls to the white walls of the gallery space. In so doing, the artist not only beseeches us to pause before these bespoke works of art, but also implores us to consider our place within the consumptive/productive narrative. Moody’s own labor in producing these works parallels the labor of those from whom the scraps and pieces within this work are derived. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Ann Moody is an artist living and working in Buffalo, NY. They were born and raised in Alabama and received a BFA in printmaking from the University of Montevallo in Alabama. After graduating and being confronted with the severe underfunding of the arts in Alabama and the lack of support for queer people, Moody moved to Buffalo and received a MFA from University at Buffalo. They have remained in Western New York after building an accepting, supportive community for themselves within the Buffalo arts scene.
