Opening tomorrow in the Newmark Gallery: Kianja Strobert: when is brunch? The exhibition will be open daily from March 20 - May 16. Registration is not required, but gallery access is limited to eight people at a time. This solo exhibition features sculpture, painting, and objects in-between, and is a new kind of approach for Strobert as she allows us into her de-hierarchized world. In her own words: Certain thinkers definitely had it right. Where are we now? Did you know p...eople are getting plastic surgery to look like their Instagram filters? Did you find my earring? World peace, yeah we need some of that. Should I put babushkas in the show? Hmm pink or blue? Why would we even debate manufactured consent anymore? If I work harder maybe I can get to that sunset? Is today the same day as yesterday? Oh, that sunset is from an ad. Buy more metal. They want something new every time. When the hell is brunch? What kind of f#^%@g brunch is this? See more

OPENING MARCH 20 when is brunch, an exhibition of sculptures, paintings, and objects in-between by Kianja Strobert. At first glance the artist presents a world of amusement. Bright colors, expressive marks and textured surfaces leap between objects that rest in haphazard configurations on the wall. In a short amount of time what emerges is a glimpse of an ideology in which material transitions, mark making and form simultaneously suggest the elevated, the quotidian and the u...tilitarian. Painting is not left to present only a window, but is discussed as a process that participates in the world of production and consumption. This solo exhibition in the Newmark Gallery will be open to the public daily in from March 20 - May 16. Registration is not required, but access is limited to eight people at a time. Visitors are required to wear masks in the gallery, and whenever they encounter others in the Sculpture & Architecture Park. #KianjaStrobert #ArtOmi

It was a different world in July 2019, when Art Omi embarked on a project to record a year in the life of our organization. In spring 2020, after the pandemic had already begun to reshape the world as we knew it in unimaginable ways, we reviewed what had been recorded. The gatherings and events that a year earlier had been business as usual seemed like a transmission from an alien world. But what also emerged is that Art Omi is still here, doing what we’ve always done. Figuring out a way forward during this uncertain year was not easy but it has been one of the most rewarding experiences we could have imagined. Enjoy this chilly weekend with a brisk exploration through the Sculpture & Architecture Park! As a reminder, Art Omi's parking lot tends to fill up easily on weekends - if you notice that the lot is full, please visit us another time. The Benenson Center remains closed to the public through the end of January, Saturday Children's Workshops are cancelled for Jan. 23 & 30, and all other programs are happening virtually. In the meantime, the Sculpture & Architecture Park is st...ill open every day, from dawn until dusk. If you're visiting for the first time, be sure to pick up a map from the front of the Benenson Center. While you're there, scan the QR code to access our free audio tour, available through the GeoTourist app (@geo_tourist). #ArtOmi #AndreaBowers : Bryan Zimmerman

Weekends at Art Omi are popular, even during the winter months! Please be sure to #ParkResponsibly when you arrive to Art Omi, and perhaps consider visiting at a time when it's less busy -- before 11AM, or on a weekday. As always, we ask that you #RecreateResponsibly by keeping social distance from other visitors, and wearing a mask when you near others on the trails. With your help, Art Omi will continue to provide a safe and inspiring refuge as we make our way through the winter season. #ArtOmi #NariWard

With cases on the rise locally, Art Omi will keep the Benenson Center closed as we prepare for our next exhibition in the Newmark Gallery. (Details coming soon!) Saturday Children's Workshops are cancelled for Jan. 9 & 16, and all other programs are happening virtually. In the meantime, the Sculpture & Architecture Park is still open every day, from dawn until dusk. If you're visiting for the first time, be sure to pick up a map from the front of the Benenson Center. While you're there, scan the QR code to access our free audio tour, available through the GeoTourist app (@geo_tourist).

Light Into Night, Art Omi's annual upstate fundraiser, is one of the highlights of the year. The evening of art, friends, and surprise usually takes place in the Studio Barns, and so for this iteration we needed to reimagine the event (and eliminate the dance party!) and so we looked towards the Sculpture & Architecture Park. This year's iteration was a scaled-down affair, where groups enjoyed indulgent picnic spreads while performers came to them. It was such a success that we developed the Picnic in the Park fundraiser, where we partnered with premiere food and beverage purveyors in our region to assemble luxurious picnics to be enjoyed by supporters. Due to popular demand, Picnic in the Park will return next year! #ArtOmi

One of the earliest casualties of this year of cancellations was the spring session of the Art Omi: Writers residency, which brings together writers from across the globe to focus on their work. Eventually the fall session was also deferred, since the international connections at the core of the program were simply impossible in current circumstances. However we were able to host a number of Art Omi: Writers alumni for a special session in September and October. The residency culminated with a virtual reading with audience members from across the world! As the year draws to a close, we ask that you consider a contribution of any size to help Art Omi continue our work of fostering international understanding through the arts. Visit artomi.org to make your contribution today! #ArtOmi #WritersOmi

A real highlight of the year was reopening the Newmark Gallery in July with the exhibition Howardena Pindell, which featured photo collage and the seminal work Free, White and 21 (1980). The video traces a personal history of racist encounters, beginning early in the artist's childhood. We were thrilled to be able to bring this powerful work to Art Omi and remind you that there are still a few days left to catch the exhibition before it closes on January 3! As the year draws to a close, we encourage you to consider a contribution of any size to help ensure exhibitions like this one for years to come! Visit artomi.org to make a donation today.
