We are very sad to hear that Dame Vera Lynn, who’s voice singing such stirring songs as We’ll Meet Again and White Cliffs Of Dover during the darkest times of World War II has passed away, aged 103. A fantastic innings for such an inspirational spirit. We’ve played her songs many times at our sister restaurant, Tea & Sympathy, and they are so evocative of a time when everyone pulled together, with sacrifice for all, working towards defeating a dark force of hate and divis...ion. Inspiring indeed. Thank you Dame Vera. We’ll Meet Again. https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-13118290 https://youtu.be/HsM_VmN6ytk

Today, May 8th, we celebrate VE Day, when we honor and celebrate how the Allies came together to overcome the dark forces that lead to so much pain and suffering during World War II. It was with a magnificent spirit of coming together that on this day in 1945 Europe was liberated, and we all stood together to face the brave new world ahead of us. One can but hope that by working together in the face of the scourge that is this pandemic that has changed the world in every nati...on, and only by working together as nations bonded in this fight can we overcome, and with the right spirit of fighting alongside our fellow men (and women), we can create a better world for ourselves and our children where people aren’t judged by the color of their skin, their religion, or their sexual orientation, but by their character and their deeds. By coming together we have this opportunity not just to get back to the world we had, but make it a better place, with love instead of hate, giving instead of greed, and a sustainable future with healing for humanity, as well as the flora and fauna we share the planet with, and indeed healing for the planet itself. In this spirit, we’d like to share a song that saw us through the darkest times of the war, performed by Dame Vera Lynn, who is still with us (having celebrated her 103rd birthday back on March 20th of this year). Remember, we will meet again. We at Tea & Sympathy, and our sister restaurant, A Salt & Battery, look forward to seeing all of our friends and neighbors, old faces and new acquaintances, and working together to make our world a better place for all of us. We’ll put the kettle on. https://youtu.be/T5C4meGkNyc

It is with the greatest of pleasure, and enormous pride, that we honor Captain Tom Moore, now Colonel Tom Moore, on his 100th Birthday. After he started to raise money for the NHS by walking laps of his garden his campaign has gained so much momentum that he has raised 30,000,000.00 to help the amazing frontline workers in the amazing National Health Service, he participated in a recording of the classic rousing song You’ll Never Walk Alone, which is at #1 in the UK charts... (making him the oldest artist to ever top the charts, displacing Tom Jones, who called him to congratulate him on it), he received a promotion to Colonel from Her Majesty The Queen, along with the customary telegram for his 100th birthday, which was presented by the Commanding Officer of the regiment that now includes his, and the birthday cards have been flooding in to Bedford School, where his grandson is at school, and where our Sean went to school too, and according to the Old Bedfordians the number of cards has now hit 135,000! We salute you Colonel Tom Moore, for your dedication and service, now, and in your service in years gone by, and we thank you for your support of the amazing people who are working tirelessly on the front line in Britain’s National Health Service to combat this global pandemic. https://youtu.be/tOC263BVOmM

Today we celebrate St George’s Day in England, in honor of our patron saint. The story goes that he bravely fought and vanquished a dragon to save a princess. Not a bad metaphor for the brave forces on the frontlines of healthcare who are fighting, at great personal risk, against this terrible pandemic that is ravaging the world. Thank you to the brave men and women fighting for us against this fearsome foe, both here in America, and back in England, and everywhere around the... world. Happy St George’s Day. May we defeat this dragon together by observing the guidelines of social distancing and personal hygiene. Wash your hands. Stay at home with your loved ones. We look forward to seeing you all when we have gotten through this, and if there’s anything you need, we can still ship from teaandsympathy.com.

We have gift certificates available to purchase through our website indefinitely that can be used when we reopen. To all of you, near and far, thank you. Please look after each other, support small businesses where you can, and we will return to our regular scheduled programming as soon as it is safe to do so.
