"Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra describes Yoga as having a balance between steadiness and ease. Chapter 2:46 says: Sthira sukham asanam, which I interpret to mean that yoga asana has the qualities of both steadiness and ease. If there’s too much of either, too much effort or too much ease, then it’s something else. It’s not Yoga." NEW DATE Libby Pfonner and I are excited to be hosting our third MIBPR workshop coming end of September. Registration below hope to see you and your parter there!
No one is wise by birth, for wisdom results from one’s own efforts ~krishnamacharya In a class I’d attended with Chase bossart @yogawellinstitute this Thursday, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras took on a new energy. Chase offered up the perspective of reading the sutras through the cultural lenses of India. It feels silly to say, but I’d never contemplated how different the translation from culture to culture may be. The Sanskrit feels less harsh and masculine. I feel the energy o...f the sutras starting to come across now as they began, around a fire, with folks contemplating God, surrounded by family, in India many many years ago. I’ve been studying these texts for many years and this new view blew my spiritual practice wide open. Practice may be like that. The road may be long but it’s lined with sweet teaching and depth of heart as it twists, winds and turns see you on the mat in the a.m ! #practice #yogasutras #ashtangayogabuffalo #buffalove #ashtnga #ashtangayoga #gratful #student #practiceandalliscoming #practice
Movement In Birth and Postpartum Routine - TAKE TWO! :) Libby and I are excited to be offering a basics childbirth prep and postpartum care course virtually. Many clients I work with have already done a ton of front loading with practitioners and providers in the area that I love and trust whole heartedly. ... We're offering this course as a last stop on the prep train to deepen the work we've done in our labor doula sessions, in a group environment. If you're having a second third or fourth addition to your family, it may have been hard to find the time to connect with you partner as you did the first time around. This workshop is a nice way to review and get those few hours alone together to ground down for your upcoming birth. Libby, mother of two and postpartum doula, is someone I trust whole heartedly to take care of the families I've served. When we first got together, it was a non stop talk fest of labor and birth. We couldn't be more excited to share what been on our minds, hearts, and during the MANY conversations we've had over toast and lattes :) Register here :) www.Maissalarson.com
The living history of yoga, on and off the mat, is not separate from conversations on how we may grow with and for each other. Brene Brown is known for her work in vulnerability research. In this podcast she speaks with professor Ibran X. Kendi breaking new ground for these transformative times. "I’m talking with professor Ibram X. Kendi, New York Times bestselling author of How to Be an Antiracist and the Director of the Antiracist Research and Policy Center at American University. We talk about racial disparities, policy, and equality, but we really focus on How to Be an Antiracist, which is a groundbreaking approach to understanding uprooting racism and inequality in our society and in ourselves." https://brenebrown.com//brene-with-ibram-x-kendi-on-how-t/
The moon, when I look up, is spectacular. @buffaloshutterbug took to the camera and captured what my eyes could not. In light of last weeks full moon, Today I’m practicing gratitude for gravity. Gravity is round, full, and right there with us, holding us in place when everything feels up in the air. #mondays #takerest #ashtangayoga #galaxy #magic #mysorestyle #ashtangayogabuffalo #buffalove
AYB: MAY 2020 - https://mailchi.mp/8eb25f3f/october-2019-newsletter-3485934 "In April I watched as tiny practice pods with little people boxes popped up on computer screens around the world, and our shala among them. To my great pleasure, the experience of teaching online has been far from empty and forlorn"
