2021 PHOTOGRAPHY & SOCIAL JUSTICE FELLOWSHIP - MAGNUM FOUNDATION Each year, the program supports a diverse, international group of Photography and Social Justice Fellows who are passionate about challenging injustice, pursuing social equality, and advancing human rights through photography. The program provides space for interdisciplinary experimentation, mentored project development, and cross-cultural, critical discourse for developing new approaches to socially engaged doc...umentary practice. With intensive mentorship, artist- and expert-led workshops, peer-to-peer learning, and production funds, this program prepares fellows to make effective creative projects and become leaders who inspire social movements, pose difficult questions, and stimulate debate and awareness about pressing social issues. Magnum Foundation covers the cost of participation, including all educational and programmatic activities. Fellows also receive a modest stipend to support the production of their projects. The program is produced in partnership with the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism. (Follow the link to read all the details)

SCHEDULE CHANGE ASMPNY Virtual Town Hall! New Monthly Schedule Join us October 1st for our next Town Hall Register Now... 1st Thursday/Month at 6pm (Zoom) Open to members and non-members - all are welcome! Each week we have been connecting with photographers here in NY and around the globe, to chat about relevant issues, get in communication with our community, and support each other in the midst of the upheavals and changing times we are living in. With the arrival of fall, six months after we began the Town Halls, it seems clear needs have changed. While some of the immediate urgency has gone and the focus has begun to shift - some beginning to work, many still not - pivoting and adapting are key themes today. And, so we are adapting, as well. We are adapting our Town Hall schedule to the changing times. We are moving forward on a monthly basis now - 1st Thursday of the month at 6pm, as usual. We will keep providing a space for all to find a way to connect, get support, and be in community with one another. Please also know that ASMPNY is in the midst of developing a wide variety of great programming that will be coming this fall and winter. So please stay tuned! In the meantime, we will see you at our next Town Hall on October 1st at 6pm...

TONIGHT!! Join us on August 31 at 7PM ET for this timely discussion. Right now, our nation is in the midst of historic protests we have not seen since the Civil Rights Movement. In this period of fundamental change, the question for us is; where do we as photographers fit in? What role do we play? Why does race matter? Often times we ask; how can we support Black people in their struggle for civil rights? When actually, this is all of our fight for all of our humanity. ASMP... NY is working to build a foundation of racial justice in our association and our industry, and we are pleased to present Maurice Lacey and Stoop Nilsson, two fantastic individuals with decades of experience in Social Policy, Culture, and Undoing Racism. They will facilitate a powerful and insightful conversation about the times that we’re living through, and what we can do as individuals, photographers, producers & teammates to make a difference in our community. We will be exploring topics of race, and answer questions you may have about what’s going on right now, how we identify racism in the photo world, and what does it mean to be anti-racist? What is undoing racism, and how do we do it? We invite both our members and non-members to join us in this critical discussion during our next ASMPNY monthly membership meeting. Come with your questions and ideas. We are committed to creating a bold and courageous space for everyone to be engaged and fully expressed in this conversation. Please join the conversation & register now...
