ASSEMBLY ROOM present BIANCA NEMELC at NADA MIAMI 2020 December 1-5, 2020 . Assembly Room is excited to present a solo online project with painter Bianca Nemelc. Born and raised in New York City, Nemelc celebrates her body, the mystery of being a woman, and the uniqueness of brown and black bodies. Each colorful, bold, abstract painting exposes different attributesmysterious, alluring, voluptuous, complicatedof being a woman. Being this person of color, says the artist, ...painting Brown and Black bodiesnot for anybody elsebut for Black and Brown people needing to see what healing could look like in this idealistic world where you can float in the water, and there is not a care in the world. Like Maya Angelou's renowned poem Phenomenal Women (1978), these paintings are Nemelc's anthem about her pride in being a woman of color. They reclaim, recover, and make space for brown and black bodies within painting and visual art. A strong advocate of owning the representation of our bodies in art, politics, and culture, Bianca Nemelc's paintings are a call to action for people of color to reimagine and change the visual landscapes they move through. . We are proud to present the first public program of the show, For Which It Stands, TONIGHT Friday, October 9 at 6 pm EST on Instagram Live with a performance by Bronx-based conceptual artist Tasha Dougé. . Tasha will perform and record her reinterpretation of the Pledge of Allegiance with her flag artwork, Justice. After the performance, all are invited to add their voices to the artist’s re-mix edition of the Pledge of Allegiance by posting a reading of the Pledge of Allegi...ance with the hashtag #IpledgeAllegiance. At the close of the exhibition, Dougé will add recordings of participants to her original performance footage, creating a collective chorus for equality and social justice reform. .
