Today's A Mighty Girl Community Pick: "Nat Enough" by Maria Scrivan. Nat thinks she's not athletic enough, talented enough, or stylish enough, but at least she ...and her best friend Lily were always "two peas in a pod"... until Lily moved out of the neighborhood. But now they'll be starting at the same middle school, so they'll finally be together again! On the first day, though, Nat is crushed to discover that Lily has befriended one of the school's "cool girls" and has no interest in rekindling her friendship with Nat. Hurt by Lily's mocking rejection and desperate to win her back, Nat tries to change herself to fit in -- until some new friends remind her that they like her just as she is. Over time, Nat comes to realize that "I’ve spent so much time thinking about what I’m not good atthat I never think about what I am good at" and that being herself is best of all. This heartfelt new graphic novel, told through the artwork in Nat's sketchbook, is a touching exploration of the inner life of a girl struggling with self-esteem, friendship breakup, and finding her place. Nat's confusion and sadness over the loss of a long-time friendship will ring true to young readers going through their own friendship transitions, and her realization that there are people who appreciate her talents for storytelling and drawing is an empowering reminder of the importance of being true to yourself. Highly recommended for ages 8 and up.
