Recently I have been focusing on the importance objects can hold. I have been holding on to items that my grandparents have given to me with a new purpose of their connection to the spiritual world. Having these items in my spaces creates a direct line to invite them into my world as well as remindin...g me of their presence. The lessons she offers are different from the rules for radicals that animated earlier generations of activists, and diverge from the charismatic, patriarchal model of the American Civil Rights Movement.
