What do we hear at the Golden Era Recorded Music project? Simply ALL MUSIC recorded on Planet Earth from 1948 to 1988! Join the Journey via ANALOG LP. Tonight we start out in the FLORIDA KEYS with JIMMY BUFFETT and 2 of his chart buster songs. Then it's on to GREAT BRITAIN during WWII and VERA LYNN boosting morale and hope. The VINYL VAULT has washed to the beach 2 DAVE BRUBECK treasures: a 1954 LP of his own piano compositions and a late 1960's album of his take on COLE PORT...ER. BONUS: A stunning essay on the 3 levels of jazz creation. Don't miss this one! DUKE ELLINGTON loved the old steam engine trains and he wrote a mini concerto for STEAM ENGINE in 1958. We will hear it and then on to a bit of the 19 year old MAHLER and his SONG OF LAMENT. Tuneful, tragic, amazing. We send out a link for the Zoom meeting every Wednesday by email! What do we hear at the Golden Era Recorded Music project? Simply any and all music on Planet Earth from 1948 to 1988! Join the journey! Hear the show LIVE at our shop 2-3 pm Sat, 153 MAPLE STREET, GF Hear our HIGH PERFORMANCE LP player system, $499 complete. Tonight we will start with the dance/jazz orchestras of 2 great New York hotels in 1958; the PLAZA and DUKE ELLINGTON plus the ROOSEVELT and LARRY ELGART. Both bands replaced the Prohibition era orchestras from the 1930's..., grown a bit tired. D and L still thrill today! The final movement of DEBUSSY'S LA MER (THE SEA) will lead us to... Two TOTALLY ORIGINAL talents from Latin America: SILVESTRE REVUELTES of Mexico and YMA SUMAC of Peru (or Brooklyn?). There is nothing like these two! The biggest hit by AMERICA will lead us to a serenade for guitar and mandolin by Gustav Mahler, as gracious and lovely as last week's waltz parody was ominous. Go figure! NOTA BENE: We resume our LIVE GERM SESSIONS on this coming Saturday, from 4 to 5 pm at my LISTENING PLACE 153 MAPLE STREET, Glens Falls. First, it is the ...RUMSANIAN RHAPSODY No. 2 by the 20 year old GEORGE ENESCU (1901) A minor subset in the history of Rock music is inspired by CLASSICAL MUSIC compositions. I have discovered one of the best of the genre: ARS NOVA doing a PAVAN and ZARATHUSTRA.
