Aussie Acres Agility is offering a NEW Foundation Agility in your Living Room class. Spring is coming, but not soon enough for any of us! So to be better prepared for spring and the outdoor agility training season, Aussie Acres is offering a 3 week foundation agility class with activities you can work on in your living room. Activities will include basic obedience skills and the early (but, so important!) agility foundation skills that do not require equipment. Class si...ze is limited to 3 dog/handler teams. Classes will be held inside in a semi-heated training space. Masks and social distancing are required. Dogs will be expected to wait in crates when it is not their turn. Dogs must be leashed and under handler control while on the premises. Handlers will bring training treats and toys that their canine partner likes. Fee- $75 for this 3 week Foundation Agility session (non refundable). Class begins Thursday March 18th at 5:30 pm. (subsequent classes are March 25, April 1). If interested send a PM to Aussie Acres Agility on FB for information on signing up.

Let’s talk about independence and confidence! In order to get through agility courses today, dogs need to have more independent obstacle performance and confidence to read handler cues. Handlers need to have confidence in their training and that they have provided their dog with these skills along the way. Do you have the skills to send your dog to a tunnel so that you can be ahead to position yourself for a Front Cross or Blind Cross? Do you have the ability to cue your dog ...to an obstacle from a distance, so that you can show your dog what’s next? Theses are the skills taught in agility classes at Aussie Acres Agility. We don’t lead our dogs around courses or babysit obstacles, we teach them the skills to be an equal contributor to the team. We teach, we listen, so we can learn! Below you will find a jumpers course that shows the skills I want my dog to have. See more

Here is Sync running the Elite Standard course I previously posted. I hope you thought of similar handling in sequence. I encourage you to join the discussion for evaluating courses. Even if you are not able to play agility right now, it’s good practice for when you can get back out on course!
