Typically the day following a heavy rainfall can lead to concerns about swimming in our local waterways. Thankfully the scientists at Stony Brook University's School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS) have developed the first ever public application to get water quality data from your favorite beaches right to your fingertips: https://www.somas.stonybrook.edu/longislandbeaches/ This has been built using decades of research collected by the Gobler Laboratory as well re...portings by the NYS DEC, NYS Department of Health, and Nassau and Suffolk County Health Departments. The app uses unique GIS and remote sensing related solutions and resources. Check it out and download it to your phone! It's super easy to use and it's free!

Happy Earth Day AND National Volunteer Week! I've been lucky enough to lead these students and witness their dedication to protecting the planet for a better and brighter future. The younger generation are our changemakers and they inspire me to continue to take responsibility for our environment and strive to make a difference! Thank you to our volunteers for all of your hard work, you make me proud! #everydayisearthday #makingadifference #dontbetrashy #giveadamn #weonlyhaveoneplanet #rootedincommunityaction #makeapositiveimpact #takeaction
