When your ballet teacher is also a farmer, springtime in the ballet studio is even more fun. How many students can say their ballet teacher knows as much about sheep as they do chasses, lambs as much as Les Sylphide....ok enough jokes.

Nutcracker didn't happen this year, but we thank you for sharing your memories with us. We can't wait for the next time we can be back on stage, but please know... that just because the events of 2020 have kept us from our Nutcracker tradition, the dancing hasn't stopped! Stay tuned for some glimpses of our latest projects! See more

It was during Arabian last year that the fire alarm went off in the theater and dancers were waved offstage while our audience evacuated. It was both a frighten...ing and disappointing situation having the show halted by what eventually was recognized as a mechanical error. Through the fear and chaos, I was amazed at our volunteers who calmed terrified children, and teenage mentors who snuggled little ones freezing in their costumes and ballet shoes on the loading dock, and at the audience who came back after it was clear we were out of danger. We picked up where we left off and continued the show....shaken but determined. This whole year has been much like that show. Our lives are interrupted, but when the time is right, the show will go on. See more

Spending time in the studio, at the theater, and on the stage together, creates some of the most lasting and meaningful friendships. We learn to celebrate each... other's successes, cry over and comfort one another in disappointment, and laugh over everything else. Ballet friends are the best friends. If this were a normal year, today is the day that we would be loading the truck with all our props and sets and costumes. The company kids would pull the tape f...rom the marley after rehearsal and a team of parent and sibling volunteers would start loading the truck. Doors to the studio would be flung open wide while we angled giant doll houses and tea cups just so, to fit out too narrow doorways, and our studio time would draw to a close as we moved to our favorite place, The Stanley. If you are missing Nutcracker this year, would you share your favorite memories with us?

The world feels crazy...but in the studio, it is always the same. We work. We laugh. We fall and get back up again. Thank goodness for dance!
