Do we offer barre classes for beginners? We don’t have a barre classes JUST for beginners. What we do have is modifications for beginners. Our jobs as teachers is to make sure everyone feels safe and comfortable doing their barre workout. ... Our next running group starts April 7th! There will be two different groups this time. Beginner running group - start by learning to run a mile! At the end of the 10 weeks the group will run a 5k!... Focused on your 5k. Work on your 5k pace and start adding miles beyond a 5k (you must have running experience for this group). Don’t forget - The first week is all about learning. You will learn about the proper gear (socks and sneakers) from @runnersroost. Carrie will also meet with the group to talk about all the details as far as the schedule (Wednesday evening and Sunday morning) how the running plan works and how you will stay in communication with the group. During that first week Carrie will host a running workshop with strength exercises and stretches just for runners! Both memberships include one class at Barretend every week. We have been behind the scenes working on our chair barre class. This class will be offered on Saturday’s from 11am-11:45, starting March 20th! Christine is one of our new teachers at Barre(tend) in Allentown. She is a PTA at PRN PT & OT doing home care physical therapy. ... Christine wanted to teach chair barre class because she has a passion to help the older population stay healthy and have fun doing it. By teaching this class she is able to help seniors as well as pregnant or postpartum women, and those with injuries that restrict their mobility. Let’s give Christine a warm barre(tend) welcome!

I thought the more calories I burned, the harder I could sweat, the more often I laced up for a run, the happier I would be with my body. I’d get 2 workouts in a day. Run a few more miles after class. Get up earlier and run before a class. It didn’t matter how my body felt. I was sore, exhausted and limping and would still set the alarm for the next morning’s workout. Every. Day. None of this got me to where I wanted to be. I wasn’t any thinner. I wasn’t any happier. I was ...just exhausted and punishing my body. I’ve learned about balance since that time. It’s ok to take a rest day. It’s ok to sleep in every so often and have a slow morning with the family. One workout counts, and so does your mental health and energy. Take care of yourself this year. Really, take care of that one body you were given. I refound this quote today and coincidentally today was the first day I was able to run in 9 days. I know that doesn’t sound like much, but I also just came off a 215 day running streak. Yes, streak - did not miss a day for 215 days!! I fell and heard a loud snap around my foot/ankle area. I was terrified to even look at my foot, fearful I would see something poking out. Luckily, it wasn't broken, it just needed time to heal and rest. Rest as an instructor doesn’t work... very well, but I definitely had to take it down a notch and couldn’t run. Besides a tap lift I had limited barre moves I could do. Very quickly, this minor foot injury reminded me that we are so lucky we get the choice to move our body everyday! We certainly don't have to, but we can!! Some days we need more motivation than others. To get to class, to get that run in, to do anything physical. Maybe the next time you want to cancel your class because you had a rough day, or you just want to continue binge watching Schitt’s Creek, think about how lucky we are that we CAN move and the difference between not wanting and not being able to. Today is a BEAUTIFUL day, did you GET to work out yet today?

Mom’s Group and Classes Having a new baby changes everything, including your schedule. Fitting in those workouts before or after work isn't quite as easy anymore. We are over a month into our Beginner Running Group and here is what some of our ladies have to say! I am so proud of this group and can not wait for race day! Running has always been something I have done, but never truly knew what I was doing when it came to preparation and stretching. Barre on your Break. If you aren’t an early morning person and your nights get too busy we offer an afternoon express class! Both classes are from 12:15-12:45....perfect for that break from work or just a break in your day! Mary has a sweat sesh in Tonawanda (on Tuesday’s) which consists of ... 7 exercises, 6 rounds, 30 seconds each, with a 10 second rest. On Thursday’s we are at Barretend. We move quickly from one body part to another so we can get a full body workout, complete in 30 minutes. Bring your mat and light weights to class and see just how fast 30 minutes can go by! Barre Arms What started as a once a week class has grown and is now on the schedule 4 times a week!!! Tovah took her own spin on this class, making it dancy and just as cool as we would expect from her. She has been teaching this class outside all summer and this week it will go inside at Barretend (grab your spot ASAP because this will be a sell out) at 9am on Saturday’s.... This class is also offered on Saturday mornings at 8am, Wednesday’s (outside) at 4:15pm and Thursday’s at 9am. We work your bi’s, tri’s, shoulders, chest and back. Sometimes we do arm work at the barre and incorporate your lower body with some pliés and squats. If you are worried about 45 minutes of ALL arms, use water bottles as weights or skip the weights - you will still feel the burn and leave with jello arms! Sign up on the MINDBODY app!
