THIS. MESS!!! It’s what greeted us every day upon walking into the kitchen from any direction. Hello, welcome to our home, guests, check out our pile of crap! No more!! The pile of crap and tiny floating shelves had to go. We picked a beautiful piece of rough sawn pine from the lumber yard for the shelves. The desk was what we built for Noah’s temporary workspace in our bedroom when we thought COVID would be over in 2-4 weeks . Stay tuned for updates on the new permanent workspace in the works.

But wait, there’s more!! Check out this awesome pendant light we put in Today. And just like that, the whole kitchen is changed!!

One of the biggest challenges of living in a 200 year old house is a severe lack of storage. Our kitchen has been a mess for three years. We always just piled toys in the middle of the rug and proceeded to trip over them from sun up to sun down. I’ve been wanting to build an island in this kitchen for years but didn’t know if it would really fit. After three years of the toy island, I figured it was time. We found a beautiful slab of maple butcher block on FB and designed t...he rest of the piece around it. After many hours of sanding the epoxy, notching out the details on the legs, burning and finishing the other lumber I chose and finally putting it together, Noah finished this beauty just in time on Christmas Eve. It won’t prevent us from tripping over toys all day but the beautiful baskets from the At Home store at least ensure those toys have a place to live once the kiddos head to bed. Mama went for a solo walk last night after dinner and when I got home I was delighted to see how beautiful these new rails look with the porch lighting. Just perfection. On to the next project!!

I don’t know HOW he did it but after many consecutive hours of painting and staining, the porch is finally done!! It’s absolutely perfect

This beautiful, warm weather made us forget that colder, wetter weather is coming. We spent our weekends hiking and playing and hanging out with the kids and while that’s for sure what we are SUPPOSED to be doing, we had started to slack on the porch project. One day of cold weather on Sunday reminded us of this inevitability and Noah kicked it into gear! He painted the second set on the south side of the porch, added the top rail and then cut and hung ALL THE REST!! Painting is by far the most time consuming part of this project and, of course, the part that requires warmer days but luckily, now, it’s all that’s left. I can’t tell you how great it feels to sit out here with the kids and feel like we have a porch again. One that is free of lead is just icing on the cake. Thanks, babe!! We LOVE it.

Thiiiiiiiis fine piece of engineering is the old gate that we fashioned at the end of the porch to keep the dogs in the yard about ten years ago. The gate that we told ourselves was just temporary because we were going to redo the porch annnny minute now. The day has FINALLY come where this hunk of moldy, annoying, hideous junk is gone and this beautiful new free swinging gate stands in its place! The best part is that it’s lockable to keep kiddies from also running away. All the people inside the yard at all times! It’s amazing what a difference this small change has made. On to the next section of railing!!

The big birthday reveal went so incredibly well!! The girl was thrilled and had so much fun doing dishes and cooking and swimming. Backyard kid zone complete!!

Best birthday present ever!!! Ok, except for the time I had a baby two days after my birthday. So SECOND best birthday present ever. Thanks, babe!! I love it!!

Working under cover of night to transform this bike shed into a play house. We’ll tarp it during the day to hide the surprise and blow her mind on the big day. Barbie and Elsa are so pumped!!
