Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize, Thissss, is so unreal!! Is it real???? Too much for me. Ahhh I wish I have the chance to say that speech again, to pr...operly thank the people I truly truly appreciate. (But there are just too many people to thank for!!) To all the judges, Michael Abene, Christine Jensen, and Anthony Wilson thank you so much for such a huge support and encouragement! It means so much to me. And a huge huge thank you to Andy Farber and Alan Ferber for leading the BMI workshop, especially this past year. They've been doing an amazing job to keep this workshop running online, so organized, and held the community together like a family. I am so lucky to be in this workshop, it's something I feel I can hold on to it during this tough time, and I'm sure all the composers feel similarly. Not to mentioned, they always gave us such great insights and thoughts on our music, on point! I grew sooo much as a big band composer while the time I am in this workshop. I think the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop is the best institute for jazz composers, and for that, I think there are just too many people to thank. I also wanted to take the chance to thank all the fellow composers in the workshop and the musicians in the BMI jazz orchestra, I learned so much from every one of them. And the community is just so amazing and so supportive! I am a bit shy usually, so I don't show very much emotions especially through that lens on the laptop, but I really love this community so much. A big congrats to Chuck Iwanusa, who inspired me very much as a composer/educator, and with whom I am so fortunate to share this winning stage today! Chuck gave me lots of support, encouragement, and some great advice when I was a new composer in the workshop. I always feel so lucky to have experienced writers like Chuck inside the workshop that we can all learn so much from and pass on the spirits. Amazing work like always. And after the announcement of the winner, Chuck said something that is so touching and so true. Thank you so much, Chuck!! I wish I have better words to return my true appreciation. I also wanted to congrats to all the other finalists as well, for the amazing job on their work and for putting this remote recording together! I enjoy everyone's music very much! And how I wish, we can all share this prize altogether. A big shout out to all the musicians who helped me record this music remotely. (Credit Below) Thank you for all the amazing work you put in, bringing my music alive even when you are just playing that single track at home. Amazing solo contributed from Ben Kono, and a very special thanks to Mark Ferber for that incredible touch on the percussion part! (Almost done with my thank you note!!) Thank you to the ASMAC.ORG organization for hosting this event and make it run smoothly!! Although I miss the live scene and the hang very much. But thanks to the live streaming, I have so many friends around the world who tune in to support this event and cheer for me!!! And thank you for all the sincere messages, I am beyond lucky to have met you all in my life. Lastly, I have too many mentors in my life, which almost makes me doubt if you can still call them mentors if there's a bunch. But it's true, there's a lot of people, in different fields and at a different stage of my life, who give me a hand, guide me through the unknown, who support me, who believe in me, and helped me grow as the person I am today. I just wanted to say THANK YOU!!! I am a bit worry I am on the top of the hill of my writing. What if I can't be any better? I hope I am on my way to the next peak of the mountain, to see that Sea of Clouds once again. THANK YOU ALL ONCE MORE!! I am blessed! We followed the score today, but I wanted to share this video that features all the musicians and some mountain scenes in Taiwan!
