The Batavia Middle School 7th/8th Grade Orchestra, directed by Mr. Stuart McLean, performed their rendition of Jurassic Park! Along with working hard on the music, rehearsing together in person as well as through Google Meet, they have been learning recording techniques from their homes. Unlike a usual concert, all students recorded their performances separately and were put together with editing. Thanks to Mr. Sean Williams, BMS Band Teacher, for editing the audio and vide...o! Great work kids! More music to come soon! Here are two alternate links to the same performance: https://drive.google.com//1jhWFmTUzycR0EBssxgF68Fumc/view OR https://youtu.be/kLoruC8iL8w Enjoy! #WeAreBatavia

So proud to share this great news! The BHS graduation rate, for students who graduate within four years, increased from 85% in the 2011-2015 cohort to 93% (for June graduates) and 94% (for those who graduated by August of their senior year) in the 2016-2020 cohort. The number is even higher 97% for the 2016-2020 cohort - when only those students who attend school in BHS are counted (as opposed to those who, for various reasons, had been completing their studies at a...lternate locations.) In other words, 85% of all freshmen entering BHS in the fall of 2011 (as the Class of 2015) earned their diploma by June of 2015. The graduation rate continued to improve over the course of the next several graduating classes, with the last group for which we have data being the Class of 2020. For that graduating class, 93% of all freshmen entering BHS in the fall of 2016 (as the Class of 2020) earned their diploma by June 2020 and 94% completed the graduation requirements by August 2020. Again, that number was higher (97%) for students who attend school at BHS. Superintendent Soler, in presenting the data to the Board of Education, congratulated the staff on their role in student success. He also noted that BHS principal, Mr. Kesler, and his staff will continue to work on raising the overall graduation rate and will dig deeper into the subgroups of the student population to look for patterns and to identify better ways to serve the full student population. #WeAreBatavia

BMS students have been brightening the days of building staff by nominating individuals for the Staff Spotlight, which is then shared over the daily announcements. Here is one from Louis Heglund for Mrs. Bochenski! #WeAreBatavia #BetterTogetherBatavia

Experience has convinced Jackson kindergarten teacher Tiffanie Amerine that playtime is essential for her young students, so she and her class took advantage of the snow and headed outdoors for some wintery fun with friends! She says, Despite all the demands of shortened academic daysthere are some milestones and memories that are paramount to include in the kindergarten year. Snow play days are just that! As she knew they would, she said, The students had... an absolute blast! In addition to the joyfulness of playtime, she notes that the responsibility of getting dressed in weather-appropriate outdoor clothes, as well as getting undressed and being responsible for packing belongings, are essential life skills. She appreciated that many parents not only sent in winter gear for their own child, but also donated extra items for students who did not have their own, enabling every child to participate. #WeAreBatavia #ValueOfPlay

Mr. Kesler, BHS principal, connects with members of the graduating Class of 2021 by interviewing them, usually in pairs, for a Senior Spotlight. Here, Haylee Thornley and MacKenzie Reigle talk with him. #WeAreBatavia #BHSSeniors2021
