Baxter Week Ahead, Updates Our weekly special rundown will remain the same this week with one more German Oktoberfest weekend along with the usual Burger & Brew Mondays, Mexican & Taco Tuesdays and Wing Night Wednesday. For tonights Vegetarian Thursday, we have made Pasta Marinara with the Beyond Burger Meatballs. This is the first of a few different dishes we plan to make where we will substitute a traditional meat-based dish with a plant-based alternative for the meat. Feed...back on these dishes is appreciated. We are getting closer to opening up indoors with the bar area work done and hopefully the rest of it finished by early next week. For the time being, we have takeout and outdoor seating along with the option for a single party (max 10ppl) to book the back room for a $25 fee. We still serve it in our takeout style but you do get table side service in this room.

Baxter Post-Columbus Day Hours, Specials I am sure like every other business in the Adirondacks, we are all just grateful in the age of Covid to have made it through our busy Summer and Fall seasons. We can all exhale (and hopefully get some much needed rest) now that the crowds are starting to disperse. For now, the Baxter will still be open everyday 12-8 except on Wednesdays when we will open at 4. We will re-evaluate our schedule in November when we also expect to add seat...ing inside, including our bar. We still have quite a bit of work that needs to get done in order to make it as safe as possible for everyone. We continue to offer takeout, outside seating and the option for a single party (max 10 ppl) to book the back room for $25. Online ordering available at bit.ly/baxterorder. Our daily special rundown will be the same, though we will offer a few less options to account for the smaller numbers we expect to serve. You can still get your favorite fix on Burger & Brew Mondays, Mexican & Taco Tuesdays, Wing Night Wednesdays, Vegetarian Thursday and for the rest of this month, we will continue with the German/Oktoberfest weekends featuring Bratwurst from Keene Valley Grocery.

Baxter Oktoberfest Weekend, Vegetarian Thursdays For the Columbus Day Weekend, the Baxter will offer a German-themed menu to celebrate Oktoberfest. We are still working out all the menu details but plan to feature Bratwurst from Keene Valley Grocery, Wiener Schnitzel with Braised Purple Cabbage, Bavarian Pretzel Bites with Cheese Sauce, Potato Pancakes with Homemade Applesauce and Rouladena German dish combining sliced steak with bacon and onions. We will have a couple Oktob...erfest beers on hand along with an expanded selection of craft beers from regional brewers. Tonight will will be our usual Wednesday Wing night while Thursday’s new Vegetarian-themed menu continues. New specials from last week include the vegan Cauliflower Korma and Lentil Walnut Un-Meatloaf and our our ever popular Pesto Zoodles to go along with our other numerous vegetarian/vegan choices on the regular menu. Thank you to everyone that brought back, donated and traded Mason jars. I now believe we have one the largest stocks in the North Country allowing us to continue to have all our drinks (like our food) ready to take home.

Baxter Vegetarian Thursdays, Mason Jar Callout Anyone seeing the crowds this last weekend would not be surprised to hear that the rangers believe that the Saturday was the busiest day ever in the Adirondacks according to an NCPR report. Along with the increase in cases for NYS, it is just a good reminder that all individuals and businesses need to stay diligent with mask wearing, social distancing and hand washing. This Thursday October 1 is World Vegetarian Day and in celeb...ration the Baxter will be launching its new Thursday theme - Vegetarian Tastes of the Worlds. Vegetarian and vegan dishes will include Cauliflower Korma, Lentil Loaf (a vegan alternative to meatloaf), Sweet & Spicy Tofu and Radish Soba, Portobello Tacos and of our old favorite Pesto Zoodles. Of course burgers and wings will still be available to those that don’t favor meat alternatives. As most of you know the Baxter likes to serve its beer and drinks in Mason jars and has a liberal Mason jar exchange program for carry away drinks. With the nationwide shortage of Mason jars due to an increase in canning during Covid, we are having trouble replenishing our stock are looking for Mason jar returns. Also, if anyone has a stock of 16oz or 32oz jars we would be happy to purchase them.

Baxter Weekly Rundown, Reserving Back Room Baxter’s new weekly rundown will continue with our long-standing themes such as Mexican Tuesdays and Wing Wednesdays but now also have Thursday Prime Rib and Italian Weekends. We have added Fajitas (Steak, Shrimp or Surf & Turf) to the Mexican menu and new Mable Bourbon (non-spicy) sauce to Wings. We will continue through October to operate as a takeout restaurant with the option to sit outside -- patio heaters are in use under the awning to help on the cool evenings. The back room is available for a single party (max 10 people) to be booked for either a private dining fixed price dinner with traditional table side service or simply reserved seating for a $25 fee with the same setup we use with the outside tables. Baxter Italian Menu and Prime Rib Tonight Below is the full Italian menu for the next few weekends. We are also offering Prime Rib this Saturday night for those that missed it on Thursday.

Baxter Fall Menu Change - Prime Rib Thursday, Italian Weekends With the leaves starting to add some color and temperatures dropping, the Baxter has made some changes to our daily special run downs. Starting this week, we are launching Prime Rib Thursdays where you can have your choice of a Downstate portion for those with a more modest appetite or a North Country portion for those who know the importance of bulking up for the approaching winter. For the weekends, we are bring back our full Italian menu with favorites such as Mel’s Alfredo and Dylan’s Lasgana. Our Burger & Brew Mondays, Mexican and Taco Tuesdays, and Wing Night Wednesdays will continue though you will probably notice some additions and changes to these menus as well.

Baxter’s Last Chance Barbecue Weekend This will be the Baxter's last weekend of Barbecue with All the Fixins. We still have all of your meat favorites including Ribs and Brisket along with alternatives such as Grilled Portobellos and Salmon that can all be topped with any of our five barbecue sauce choices. As always there are an array of sides from Jalapeno Corn Bread to Watermelon, Mint & Feta Salad to Mel’s Molasses Baked Beans with Bacon. Brisket ($16) and Chicken ($14) a...re reduced in price for this final weekend. So come on up the hill and enjoy one last taste of summer. It kicks off Friday at 4 and runs through Sunday with maybe some items available on Monday. Also as reminder, we have our Fish Fryday specials of Fish & Chips and Calimari running all day for $12. Baxter’s Summer End Daily Specials Hard to believe that today is last day of August and this weekend really marks the end of summer. Despite the challenges of Covid, all of us at the Baxter have really embraced the process of re-inventing ourself as a takeout restaurant while doing our best to make a safe and enjoyable dining experience for all of our customers. This week will be the last week of our current daily special rundown and while we expect to keep some of the most p...opular theme nights (Burger & Brew Mondays, Taco/Mexican Tuesdays, Wing Night Wednesday), we do plan to end for now Barbecue Weekends and Asian/Chinese Thursdays to be replaced with some new (and old favorite) specials. Baxter Mountain Tavern Weekly Rundown, Hiring The pleasantly cool evenings are a reminder that Summer is nearing its end. Here at the Baxter we have greatly appreciated all the support and understanding from locals and visitors alike as we have tried our best to make a positive and safe dining experience in the Age of Covid. It’s been a while since I posted so I thought I would remind everyone of our weekly rundown, which we will keep in place through at least Labor Day. As u...sual, we run a different special each day of the week with tonight's Burger and Brew Mondays, Taco & Mexican Tuesdays, Wing Night Wednesdays, Asian/Chinese Thursday, Fish Friday and Barbecue Weekend. Most of your usual favorites are in place and each week we try out a few new dishes or make some tweaks to keep it interesting. As a reminder the Baxter now (and for the foreseeable future) operates as a takeout restaurant with the option to sit at one of the many outside tables spread around the property. We don’t take reservations (except for the private dining option in the backroom) but do recommend pre-ordering online at bit.ly/baxterorder or via phone 518-576-9990 as we will prioritize these orders, which should be ready close to when you arrive. Like everyone else, the Baxter is also hiring both of front of house kitchen positions. As noted in earlier posting, we have changed compensation pool so that all staff is paid is competitive wage and tips are shared across the staff.

Baxter Weekly Rundown, Reservations, Job Opportunities The Baxter kicks of our usual weekly rundown of theme menus with a couple tweaks this week. Our Asian/Chinese Thursday is moving more to a Dim Sum format of offering wide selection of smaller Asian dishes meant to be shared or sampled instead as many entrees, though General Tso’s Chicken is always available. For Friday Fishday we will now bring back our Fried Calamari every week. We still get lots of calls for reservation...s and unfortunately we have found that we can really only manage the takeout and outside dining on a first come first serve basis. As we announced a couple weeks, large parties can book our back room for a private dining event with traditional table side service. We have also decided that when not in use for private dining, a party of 6 or less can reserve the table in the back room for a fee of $25 (2hr limit). You will still order at our takeout counter (or preorder) but now can guarantee a table inside with air conditioning. Like the private dining, we will only allow one family/friend group in this room at a time. Like every other restaurant in the area, the Baxter is also looking for cook and prep positions for our kitchen. However, unlike most restaurants half of all tips now get split amongst the kitchen staff, which is added to a competitive base pay.
