Dear Beacon Community: I wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a restful Winter Break and a Happy Holidays! This has been a very challenging year for everyone and it has been inspiring to see how our staff, students, and families have risen to challenge after challenge with grace this past year. From my vantage point in the superintendent’s office, I receive daily inspiration from how our staff and community continue to rise to the challenges that we face on a daily basi...s. We are planning on returning on January 4 with our hybrid/in-person model of instruction. We will monitor both the regional and local situation and staffing levels in our schools over the break and if we need to make temporary changes to what we are doing we will. If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19 over winter break, please let us know. This is not a requirement but it helps us track things. I know this holiday season will bring extra challenges to families trying to be together in different ways and also feelings of not being able to see people we normally might be able to see this time of year. Like everything else from the past ten months, I know we will figure it out with new traditions and new ways to be together. Due to icy conditions today, the BCSD school buildings will be closed and there will be no out-of-district transportation. We will operate remote learning today for students. Beacon High School and Rombout Middle School will send out reminders about their schedule. Elementary students can check their google classroom. School and District offices will operate remotely as well. Thank you to the local highway departments and our own staff for all of their hard work cleaning the roads and parking lots yesterday.

School Food Services recognizes this is an unprecedented time to manage Remote and Hybrid learning schedules given the recent changes to school schedules. Families who have not already signed up for meal distribution are still eligible to sign up and receive FREE Meals weekly. We completed our first six weeks of in-person hybrid/remote today! I just wanted to take a few moments to acknowledge the hard work of everyone on our staff to make this happen! I also wanted to acknowledge the infinite patience of our families as they support their children and us through this process. We even have some of our sports competing and a socially distanced Beacon Players musical! We aim to add more extra-curricular activities as we go. Remember, we will continue to have many challenges this year. We will communicate with you if we have a positive case of a student or staff member and will work through the process with the experts.
