This Week at Beacon Library
January 19, 2021, is the fifth annual National Day of Racial Healing. The day was established in 2017 by more than 550 leaders from around the United States who wanted to set aside a day to take action together. The American Library Association (ALA) is joining forces with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation's (WKKF) Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (TRHT) enterprise to engage our member community in racial healing as an opportunity to broaden and deepen our personal and joi...nt commitment to social justice in equity, diversity, and inclusion. Read the Proclamation. The National Day of Racial Healing (NDORH) is an opportunity for people, organizations and communities across the United States to call for racial healing, bring people together in their common humanity and take collective action to create a more just and equitable world. Last year I did a project at the Howland Public Library with the Be A Friend Project and our local Beacon students where we wrote letters and made pictures for a student who was being severely bullied. Emma is the new student who needs our help and support. If you have a class or a child who would like to help out, please click on this post and find out the details. A word of encouragement will mean so much.
Dear Community Members, The Library will be closed until further notice as we address flood damage that occurred over the weekend due to a plumbing emergency. While the initial problem has been fixed, we must now work to repair the resulting water damage. We will update you as soon as it is safe for the community and our staff to be in the building again.

Today we celebrate the life, legacy and message of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. There are many wonderful ebooks and audio books to download with the Hoopla app including spoken word ebooks in Dr. King's own voice. Also available is King: a Filmed Record from Montgomery to Memphis. "Constructed from a wealth of archival footage, KING: A FILMED RECORD...MONTGOMERY TO MEMPHIS is a monumental documentary that follows Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. from 1955 to 1968, in his rise from regional activist to world-renowned leader of the Civil Rights movement." https://www.hoopladigital.com/collection/11863
