What are the benefits of subspine decompression? The primary goal and benefit of subspine decompression is to eliminate hip pain and to restore full range of motion. When subspine decompression is done in conjunction with other hip impingement treatments, it offers the following benefits: Helps patients avoid revision hip arthroscopy by 46%... Allows me to assess and repair soft tissue abnormalities Addresses other forms of hip impingement during the same surgical procedure such as FAI, cam deformity and pincer impingement. https://manhattansportsdoc.com/subspine-impingement-decomp/

How is a meniscus root tear repaired? The goal of a meniscus root tear repair is to locate the torn root and tack it back down to the bone using strong sutures. It is very important for proper healing, that the placement of the root matches the original Footprint or attachment site. To accomplish this goal, I drill a small hole from the outside of the tibia (shin bone) into the knee joint next to the natural attachment of the meniscus root. Next, sutures are placed in the m...eniscal attachment and threaded through the hole in the tibia. The sutures are anchored to the tibia in order to stabilize the meniscus root attachment. If scar tissue is present, I will clean up the area so the knee is allowed to move through its entire range of motion. Once complete, this is the recovery process: https://manhattansportsdoc.com/meniscus-root-tear-repair-o/
What are early stages of hip arthritis? Arthritis behaves differently in the hip for many people. Typically, physicians expect hip arthritis to come on gradually, over time, and be associated with advancing age. However, the onset of symptoms may sometimes be surprisingly sudden, and patients may experience intermittent episodes of spontaneous remission without symptoms of any kind. Arthritis can also strike young adults even without a family history of disease and may be isolated to a single joint. The most common form of arthritis that I treat are the following: https://manhattansportsdoc.com/arthritis-hip-arthroscopy-o/
What are the symptoms of a patella tendon injury? Pain is usually the first indicator of a patella tendon injury, other symptoms include: Tenderness in the knee Bruising... Cramping in the knee Indentation at the bottom of the patella (tendon rupture) Displaced kneecap Difficulty walking Patella that moves easily and is no longer anchored to the tibia https://manhattansportsdoc.com/patellar-tendon-pain-injury/

What are the risks of arthroscopic hip surgery? During a traditional hip arthroscopy, the hip joint needs to be open in order for the instruments to safely pass into the joint. The traditional way to open the joint is to place a large padded post in the patient’s perineal area to provide counter-traction while the leg is pulled taught. I am one of approximately 20% of hip surgeons in the USA who have switched to postless hip arthroscopy. This new technology for accessing the joint eliminates the perineal post completely by using a special surgical table to create the traction required for the surgery resulting in quicker recovery without complications such as numbness in the genital area and possible nerve damage. https://manhattansportsdoc.com/femoroplasty-cam-impingemen/
I may use a combination of the following procedures to perform subspine decompression: Shaving: A specialized tool used to smooth the surface of the bone which is showing a bony protrusion. Debridement: Removes loose bodies, such as bone fragments, from the hip joint. Avulsion fracture removal: Some cases of subspine impingement can be severe enough that a piece of bone from the subspine area becomes detached, along with the muscle and tendon. The fragment of bone will ...be removed. Femoroplasty: A treatment done, primarily for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) which may involve a combination CAM deformity and pincer hip impingement. The hip joint is trimmed or smoothed to create a smooth surface and allow the hip a full range of motion. Who is at risk for an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury? ACL injuries are very common among athletes of all ages and competitive levels. An estimated 200,000 ACL injuries occur each year in the United States with nearly of the injuries being ruptures (tears). There are a number of factors that increase the risk of an ACL injury, including: Sex: Females are two to four times more likely than men to tear the anterior cruciate ligament. This may possibly be due to diff...erences in anatomy, muscle strength and hormonal influences. Poor conditioning Wearing footwear that doesn’t fit correctly Using poorly maintained sports equipment, such as ski bindings or boots that are not adjusted properly Artificial turf is responsible for more ACL tears than grass surfaces High demand sports such as football, basketball, soccer, gymnastics and downhill skiing. Here are the symptoms and how this injury is diagnosed: https://manhattansportsdoc.com/acl-injury-anterior-cruciat/

What are acetabular cysts? Acetabular cysts, or acetabular paralabral cysts (APLCs) are common in the hip and can be asymptomatic in as many as 1/4th of the patients who have them. However, these types of hip cysts can also cause pain and restriction in the hip joint, accompanied by hip pain severe enough to require surgical intervention. What is a trochanteric bursectomy? Trochanteric bursitis is marked by inflammation of the bursa located at the outside of the hip joint, known as the greater trochanter. Trochanteric bursitis typically results from overuse of the hip joint, a fall or blunt trauma to the hip, previous surgery or incorrect posture. An arthroscopic bursectomy, known as a trochanteric bursectomy when the greater trochanter is involved, I perform this procedure for patients who have chronic bursitis of the greater trochanter that has not been alleviated by non-operative measures. https://manhattansportsdoc.com/trochanteric-bursectomy-ort/

Do platelet-rich plasma injections work? Scientists have proven that PRP injections release three to five times more growth factors than regular human blood. For soft tissue injuries this is beneficial because of the accelerated healing, using the body’s natural capabilities. Platelet-rich plasma therapy has shown great benefit for orthopedic sports medicine injuries especially those involving tendons, ligaments and soft tissue. Which injuries can be treated with this therapy? Click here to find out: https://manhattansportsdoc.com/platelet-rich-plasma-prp-or/
