Completed in 1982, The Wilmot was one of the first tax credit rehabilitation projects in the Rochester region. We worked diligently with our client to stabilize and revitalize this distinctive but vacant neoclassical style apartment building which continues to serve as an anchor in the Corn Hill Historic District to this day. // #throwbackthursday #deservetopreserve #beforeandafter #rocitecture #historicpreservation #neoclassical #rochesterny
Our colleague Steve Jordan recently completed some window restoration work at one of our favorite historic sites, Granger Homestead and Carriage Museum, and shared some wonderful information on the original glass in the windows.
Today we stopped by @rochesterunitarian to discuss a new masonry repair and restoration project on their signature #louiskahn designed building. We are thrilled to continue our work on this masterwork of modern architecture. // #modernism #moderndesign #brutalism #thisplacematters #rocitecture #rochesterny
Project architect, Chris Brandt, and Caitlin Meives of the @landmarksociety will be co-presenting a free webinar tomorrow evening at 6:00pm on the NYS Historic Homeowner Tax Credit. We are excited to help spread more awareness about this wonderful, but underutilized program with the @landmarksociety through the generosity of Esther Krakower. On August 27th, project architect, Christopher Brandt, is co-leading a workshop with Caitlin Meives of The Landmark Society of Western New York, Inc. on the NYS Historic Homeowner Tax Credit program. Be sure to tune in to learn more about this great but underutilized program!
Some punch list items remain, but we are so thrilled to see our extensive rehabilitation and partial reconstruction of the colonnade at the George Eastman Museum nearly complete. For the first time in decades, and perhaps since Mr. Eastman's death, the colonnade can be experienced as the extension of the formal gardens it was intended to be while keeping the interior of the museum conditioned. // #classicalarchitecture #jfosterwarner #historicpreservation #historicinteriors #historicgarden #beforeandafter #rocitecture #restoration
Our architectural historian, Katie Eggers Comeau, is spending the majority of this week in Thousand Island Park, New York finishing her fieldwork on a comprehensive update to their national register historic district. As part of this work, she led a masked socially distanced walking (and golf cart) tour of the historic district. Katie is also being assisted by TIP's summer intern London Hainsworth on creating new detailed maps of the district. // #thousandislandpark #victorianarchitecture #explorenewyork #historicpreservation #iloveny #thisplacematters #gothicrevival #historichomes
Buildings are physical repositories of stories and layered histories. This 1830s rural Greek Revival home was expanded with a new full height second story and rear wing during the 1890s. It was converted into apartments during the 1940s, and in 2021 it will be recast as a single family home again. // #heavytimberconstruction #antiquehome #historicpreservation #thisplacematters #flx #pennyan
Work is progressing on our massive window restoration and replacement project at the Monroe County Office Building with Window Specialists Inc. In all, 269 windows will be addressed in this signature J. Foster Warner designed building. // #historicpreservation #rocitecture #italianrenaissance #thisisroc #rochesterny #workinprogress #behindthescenes
Beautiful progress for Goldwin Smith Hall at @cornelluniversity as the new terrazzo tile design is being installed throughout the first floor corridor. Using large format tile has allowed the space to incorporate historically appropriate terrazzo tones while giving more ability to customize patterns and details. We love the pop of brass at the accent diamonds that lead into the office of the Dean of Students. // #cornelluniversity #historicpreservation #interiordesign #historicinteriors #historicithaca
We are excited to begin our field work today on the restoration at Ithaca's distinctive Cascadilla Boathouse with Trowbridge Wolf Michaels Landscape Architects LLP and Historic Ithaca // #thisplacematters #historicithaca #historicpreservation #historicboathouse
After years of developing a facilities master plan and advocating for funding, we are pleased to finally see phase one of our rehabilitation at the Livingston County Historical Society and Museum complete. This phase included a small addition to the historic cobblestone schoolhouse that provides an accessible entry and new bathrooms while carefully uncovering and preserving formerly concealed historic building fabric. Project architect, Lindsay Yoder stopped by last week to c...heck on the last few punchlist items before the museum opened to the public. // #geneseony #livingstoncountyny #rocitecture #cobblestone #historicpreservation #thisplacematters #historicschoolhouse See more
