Best Friend Free Library

There are few nobler, more long-lasting gifts to one's small-town birthplace than a library. David Howe of Wellsville, NY gave two. One in 1908, after he became... successful in Williamsport, PA, and one in his will after he died. This second one, opened in 1937, is still Wellsville's library, and it is a dandy center of civic life. I got a chance to view the interior for the first time yesterday. See more

On this #ThrowbackThursday we thought we'd take a break from the 1980's a take a look at the library that was the Kenmore Library before the Kenmore Library was... the Kenmore Library. The Kenmore Library was "born" in 1919, but did not have a permanent dedicated home in those early years, at first housed in village hall, later in the WYCA building on the corner of West Hazeltine and Delaware, and for a while a house on Mang Avenue, before finally landing at the corner of Delaware Rd and Chapel in 1929.
