Since Be the Light began in 2015, we've hosted close to 50 high school students from as far away as Micronesia and as close as just a few streets over at Canisius College, spending our days talking about solidarity, social justice, and spirituality. We're accepting applications for our 2020 cohort of students. Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible to apply. Scholarships and travel assistance are available. BTLI 2019, Day 6: Throughout the week students were asked to develop projects they could bring back to their communities with them. They then had the opportunity to present these projects at our closing dinner. This year projects focused on environmental justice, mental illness, LGBTQ+ rights, and homelessness.

BTLI 2019, Day 5: Voice Buffalo spent the morning with us discussing community organizing as well as our obligation to fight for justice as followers of Christ. For lunch, we enjoyed burritos from Lloyd Taco!

BTLI 2019, Day 4: Travelled to East Aurora’s Rural Outreach Center where we discussed the implications of rural poverty as well as learning some surprising statistics about those living in rural communities. In the evening, Canisius’ new VP of Student Affairs joined BTLI to give a witness talk explaining the importance of being Men and Women With and For Others.
