Beth Tephilah Synagogue 09.11.2020

On August fourth, Sunday at Beth Tefillah synagogue, 82 River Street in Troy, the chill and schmooze Jewish Lodge will have a Hands-On demonstration of the incense offering that was made in our Holy Temple in Jerusalem over 2000 years ago. We will discuss the mystery of the incense. The offering that was very special because only the the person making the offering was left in the temple room. The Cloud of the incense filled the room and it was only that person and Gd. This of...fering brought out the very essence of a Jew's Bond with Gd. The discussion will talk about why the incense would facilitate this Bond and the spiritual power of the sense of smell. When we say something smells fishy or that something smells like a rose we mean something much deeper then those objects. The lodge will be serving a vegan Buffet, suggested donation is $5 please RSVP to Leible 518-894-3490 See more

The Little Island that saved the Revolutionary war St.Eustatius Island. This Island was a safe haven for Jews fleeing the Spanish & Portuguese Inquisition .Many Jews settled here as merchants.Pictured here is the Synagogue Honem Dalim in St. Eustatius. During the Revolutionary War many guns were hidden here to help the American cause. This Island was under Dutch rule at this time. Admiral Rodney from England hated the Jews. Pictured below. When he was given permission to fig...ht the Dutch he headed straight for this Island. He arrived on shabbos & mercilessly beat the Jews ( there wasnt a big enough defense against the British) expelling them & seizing their property. But because of Rodney's greed he stayed on the island plundering all the wealth & possessions of the Jews. Rodney did not send his fleet back to defeat George Washington. On September 5, 1781, Washington rode into Chester, a town on the Bay when a courier from de Grasse’s fleet came riding up to tell him that the Admiral had arrived in the Bay with no less than 28 ships and 3000 troops, and that they were already being disembarked and placed in contact with Lafayette. The Cornwallis trap was laid! After announcing the stunning news to his troops, Washington turned his horse northward to inform Rochambeau, who was coming down by barge. As Rochambeau’s boat neared the dock at Chester, he and his staff saw the astonishing sight of a tall man acting as if he had taken leave of his senses. He was jumping up and down and waving his arms in sweeping circles, with a hat in one hand and a white handkerchief in the other. On nearing the shore they could see that the eccentric figure was undoubtedly George Washington, ordinarily so grave and well-contained. No one had ever seen the General so unres-trained and joyful, and almost childlike in happiness. Unfortunately St.Eustius never recovered its former glory. But because of the ammunition and money that was hidden there and the Admiral Rodney's greed,America won the war of Independence and Jews won the freedom of worshiping as they wanted. Just to list a few Jews who participated in helping out America during the Revolutionary war; Chaim Solomon, Mordechai Sheftall, Aaron Lopez. Just to name a few . Happy fourth of July! See more
