On view in the @fosnotartgallery current exhibition Art For Your Collection is this drawing by Graham Nickson. The exhibition brings together work by 26 different artists, including Nickson and Elizabeth Enders, all of whom were selected by a panel of art critics. Describing the process behind his drawing in the exhibition, Nickson, who is also the Dean of the @ny_studioschool, said, I started the drawing ‘Cardinal Tree’ when some wild turkeys were walking in front of a re...d tree. The drawing concluded with the red cardinals in the near space, and the tree taking the presence of the ‘older’ birds. In fact, the red came to the cardinals and the red tree took on the form of the turkeys. I have painted bathers, birds, and trees; they are all part of the whole journey. The exhibition is on view through January 30th. #grahamnickson #fosnortartgallery #bettycuninghamgallery __ Cardinal Tree, 2020 Pencil on paper 8.5 x 11 in. See more

Currently on view in the Gallery’s online viewing room is Elizabeth Enders Escape. The viewing room brings together over 30 works by the artist, including a few works that depict Legzira, a beach found on Morocco’s Atlantic Coast. The beach is made famous by its large archway that adorns the beach. During sunset, the sun shines directly on the rock archway, illuminating its red hue. There used to be two archways at Legzira, however one suddenly collapsed in September 2016 d...ue to sustained erosion. Enders first learned about Legzira Beach from a travel magazine that she was leafing through during a stay at a hotel. She was mesmerized. The colors of the clay and sand were so sumptuous that Enders felt particularly drawn to the beach, even writing in her diary - I just had to paint it! The viewing room runs through January 23rd and is available on the Gallery’s website. #elizabethenders #bettycuninghamgallery __ The Rock Arch on Legzira Beach, Marrakech, Morocco V, 2020 Watercolor, pen and ink on paper 5 x 5 in. An interview with Beverly McIver conducted by Amy Funderburk was recently featured on @artandobjectonline! In the interview @bmciverart discusses the work she has made since the Lockdown of 2020 began, which the artist says has been a time to paint without obligations. Speaking about how she feels art can help combat systematic racism and the inclusion of her work in the Enough of Trump by @peoplefor_, McIver said, As human beings, we form our opinion or how we think based o...n what we see and/or experience. So, the fact that we seewhether it's through television, movies, or just real lifethat's how we decide how racist we're going to be, consciously or not. In every state where [billboards and posters of the Enough of Trump paintings were] postedthey voted blue this year. With John Lees hosting a virtual drawing class this spring at the @ny_studioschool, the Gallery is looking back to our 2013 exhibition of the artist, the third solo show of Lees at the Gallery. Lees paints as if his paintings were recurring dreams. In the exhibition, the artist’s dreams included: simple dreams such as an Umbrian landscape or swaying treetops; childhood dreams of Dilly Dally - an early TV character with whom Lees identified, or of Rte 66 his family’s escape ...route to the West Coast; and psychological dreams, particularly one of the lonely clown as painter. Lees characteristically spends years working and reworking his paintings and drawings. The build up and sanding down of paint, tears, patches and even written diary logs of dates are among the physical reminders of the lengthy time spent on each painting. #johnlees #newyorkstudioschool #bettycuninghamgallery See more
