If I appeared to be glowing at the farm stand this past weekend, it’s because I was still in awe over the amazing food placed before us at @eddiesroadhouse last Wednesday evening. I knew which veggies would be featured at the Halloween Beer Dinner because they came from Bialas Farms the day before. I was not privy to the menu details. ... What we experienced was a succession of six highly creative and perfectly prepared courses in which vegetables were not merely an expected filler on the plate. Our server (and CSA member) asked me what it’s like eating a meal of MY vegetables that SOMEONE ELSE prepared. Honestly, I dine out regularly and while the meals are good, this one was exceptional. The entire crew at Roadhouse deserves kudos for a job done beautifully. As a diner, I was very impressed. As a farmer, I’m grateful that these chefs challenge themselves to be inventive with seasonal produce. To be inspired by the local bounty and to have the ability to create a menu that highlights it is truly a gift. Thank you, Eddie’s Roadhouse! Hey guys! It looks like a freeze warning is in effect so that means summer veggie supplies are waning. we still have a bunch of peppers at the farm stand this week. Great thing about peppers? The plants are full of foliage that shield the peppers themselves from damage during the first freeze. Once the leaves are gone, however, the peppers are toast. ( it IS November!)... Grab a bunch of peppers this week and create your own chili blend. I like to chop a bunch of sweet bell peppers, onions, garlic, poblano (or Anaheim) chilies, and jalapeños and freeze them in recipe-sized portions. One bag of chili blend can be quickly sautéed as a starter for your favorite pot of chili. It’s a great time saver, and you know EXACTLY where your veggies came from. Add your desired seasonings, spices, meats and/or beans when you’re ready to cook up the final batch. Catch up with us Tuesdays 3-6:30, Fridays and Saturdays 9-2 until Thanksgiving. For fifty years (heaven help me) he’s been waving to his little girl when he passes with the snow plow. 18-20 with drifts up to 14 FEET around the buildings. Gonna be a lot of cleanup today. When you have roasted poblano chile peppers in the freezer, Sunday brunch is a snap to throw together. Rajas con Crema is a tasty blend of sautéed onions and roasted poblano pepper strips. The veggies come together with a sauce of Mexican Crema and grated jack cheese.
