Sometimes your planter breaks down for a week and the covers get out of control. Don't fear just bust out the cultipacker!
Lots of exciting things happening today on the farm, started planting soybeans. Today we no tilled into rye cover crop following corn, this year we upgraded the planter to hydraulic seed drive with variable rate prescriptions. I create these prescriptions ahead of time based on yield maps from years prior as well as my knowledge of the particular fields. We also used our new minimal disturbance strip till rig to place nitrogen into the bio strip till cover crop that will be planted to corn in a few days. Very pleased with the seedbed left for the planter
Really pleased with our bio strip till results so far! We are really getting this system dialed in, can't wait to plant corn into this cover crop it was like walking on a sponge!
We've been busy no tilling our 2020 oat crop the past few days! We added triples to the drill tractor this year to help with traction along with alleviating compaction. Also you'll notice from our autosteer screen we are controlling the dry fertilizer application with the valmar seeder and monitoring the 4 separate scales on the drill for precise rate checks. Technology at it's best!
Winter cover crop update, the first picture is of our cover crop plot following small grains, our control is in the center of the picture it is our standard bio strip till mix. The other pictures are of the rye that was planted after soybeans into snow! Looking great isn't it!
Short season corn, no tilled into bio strip till cover crop on June 12th on our wettest, poorest piece of ground that we work, still pulling off some decent yields. A little soil health goes a long way. Show your soil some love and plant cover crops.

Won't let a little snow keep us from getting those cover crops in! Rye going in after soybeans.
