Bikram Yoga Harlem

The End. Well, what is there to say? Bikram Yoga Harlem closed on March 15th after all non-essential businesses in the city were ordered to do so to combat COVID-19. We knew that this was going to take some time, and metrics were provided by the state for the stages for reopening later that spring/summer. Gyms like ours were supposed to be in Phase 4.... NYC entered Phase 4 on July 20th. We were anticipating being able to re-open our doors and continue offering hot yoga to our amazing community. But as that day came, they changed the guidelines and refused to allow gyms to open. There is no Phase 5. So we patiently waited for more guidance and instructions. Then gyms were allowed to reopen on September 2nd, but all indoor classes were banned. We are still prohibited from being open as of today. Schools are open, but not for long. Indoor dining is open, but not for long. Restrictions are being re-introduced in neighborhoods in the city. The pandemic continues, and we are not anticipating being allowed to open this year, or even into next year. It is in this light that I had to make the difficult decision to close the studio permanently. I am devastated beyond words. I have tried to keep this space open and available for everyone. But after applying for emergency loans from the city and SBA, and having to continue to pay rent without any relief from the landlord, my debts are just too much to be able to continue with no idea of when we might be allowed to reopen. I cannot, as a business owner, continue to pay rent on an unusable space without being able to conduct my business. As of now, Bikram Yoga Harlem will need to file for bankruptcy. I wish to thank everyone who has been so supportive over the last 8 months. Thank you for your support, your kind words, and your participation with the teachers in their online class offerings. I wish all of you the best in these trying times. Stay safe. Practice as you can. Keep healthy. Thank you for 12 amazing years.
